Role Overview:The Database Engineer (DBE) will be responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining enterprise-level databases. The role requires hands-on experience with either SQL Server, Oracle, or IBM DB2—including database development, performance tuning, automation, and ensuring data integrity and availability. Key Responsibilities: Database Development & MaintenanceDesign, develop, and maintain database objects such as tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, triggers, and functions. Optimize existing schemas and SQL queries to improve system performance. Implement best practices for database coding, security, and standards. Performance Tuning & OptimizationDiagnose performance issues and provide tuning solutions (SQL tuning, indexing strategies, query refactoring). Perform capacity planning, storage optimization, and database health checks. Database AdministrationManage database installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching. Monitor system performance, backups, and recovery processes. Manage user roles, permissions, and security policies. Backup & RecoveryConfigure, validate, and maintain database backup strategies (RMAN — if Oracle, native SQL backup, or DB2 backup methods). Develop disaster recovery plans and participate in DR drills. Automation & ScriptingAutomate recurring tasks using Shell/PowerShell/Python or database-native scripting. Build dashboards or alerts for monitoring database health. Collaboration & SupportWork closely with application developers and business teams to support deployments, releases, and troubleshooting. Provide on-call support for production incidents as needed. Required Skills: Core Database SkillsCandidate must have hands-on experience with at least one of the following:SQL Server (T‐SQL, SSIS, SSRS, performance tuning, AlwaysOn availability groups)Oracle Database (PL/SQL, RMAN, AWR/ADDM reports, Data Guard)IBM DB2 (DB2 SQL, backup/restore utilities, performance tools) Technical CompetenciesStrong SQL programming and data modelling skills. Excellent understanding of RDBMS concepts, indexing, transactions, and query execution plans. Experience with ETL processes, batch jobs, and data migration. Knowledge of Linux/Unix or Windows server environments. Familiarity with cloud databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Oracle Cloud, etc.) is a plus.
