Yard Spotter Driver

We utilize state-of-the-art machinery and innovative manufacturing techniques to consistently engineer products of the highest possible quality.Position Summary The Truck Driver/Spotter operates a tractor-trailer with a capacity of up to 22 tons to transport Suncast products and equipment to various locations. This role typically involves multiple daily trips within a 150-mile radius of Suncast facilities, with occasional longer-distance deliveries that may require overnight stays.When driving assignments are not scheduled, this role supports operations by performing Spotter duties as needed to maintain efficient material control. This can include positioning and organizing trailers on-site or assisting as a Material Controller or Stretch Wrapper Operator.Responsibilities Operate the Suncast truck in a safe, responsible, and lawful manner while traveling to various locations.Complete the majority of trips within a 75-mile radius of Suncast facilities.Accommodate occasional overnight travel as required.Adjust working hours as necessary to meet delivery and pick-up schedules.Ensure trailers are properly chocked during loading and unloading operations.Verify that trailers are securely and correctly hitched prior to each trip.Ensure all cargo is loaded, secured, and distributed safely to prevent shifting or damage during transport.Conduct load checks during transit as required to ensure continued cargo stability and safety.Move and position trailers based on priority sequences outlined on tablets, unless otherwise directed by the Manager- Internal Supply Chain.Coordinate closely with shipping, receiving, and yard personnel to ensure efficient flow of trailers and materials.Refuel tractors at designated locations using the assigned credit card.Ensure both the credit card and insurance card are included in the daily inspection report.Maintain accurate and compliant driver log and records in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations.Perform pre-trip, in-transit, and post-trip inspections of tractors and trailers in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and document/report all findings.Identify, document, and report any safety concerns related to equipment such as flat tires, brake issues, or malfunctioning lights.Promptly report accidents, incidents, near misses, or delays in accordance with company procedures.Perform minor roadside or yard repairs as needed (e.g., replacing light bulbs, securing loose components).Maintain consistent communication with dispatch and leadership via radio, tablet, or telephone as required.Accurately complete and submit daily trip records via tablet, including all deliveries and pick-ups, in accordance with Suncast procedures.Perform Yard Spotter duties as required, such as trailer staging, dock positioning, and yard organization.Support material control operations as needed including moving finished goods and raw materials.Operate equipment such as yard tractors, mobile wrappers, pallet jacks, and/or hand jacks to support operations as required.Assist with loading and unloading activities when necessary to support operational needs.Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned tractors, trailers, and work areas.Monitor and support trailer utilization, ensuring equipment is efficiently used and properly staged.Follow all site-specific traffic patterns, yard rules, and safety protocols at all times.Submit periodically and randomly to drug testing while on duty as well as comply with other Federal regulations.Participate in trainings, safety meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.Support and comply with all Suncast safety policies, quality standards, and housekeeping methods at all times.Perform additional duties as required.Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred.1+ year of professional driving experience preferred.Illinois CDL license, Class A, required.Must have clean driving record with no suspensions or revoked licenses in Illinois and other states.Must comply with Federal regulations regarding commercial drivers of vehicles with a GVW of 26,001 pounds or more.Must be able to pass the DOT physical examination.Knowledge of the Chicago expressway system desired.Ability to document legibly and clearly and communicate effectively.Ability to use a tablet for certain duties and responsibilities of this position.Willingness to work 6 days per week, including some holidays, and an off-shift depending on variations in production schedules.Able to lift up and move up to 70 pounds.The anticipated pay range for this position: $22.00-$27.00 hourly.Suncast offers a comprehensive benefits package including: medical, dental, prescription drugs, vision insurance, telehealth benefits, group term life insurance, 401K with employer match, paid vacation time off, paid holidays, short- and long-term disability coverage, health savings accounts (HSAs) & flexible spending accounts (FSAs) for health, paid parental leave (maternity & paternity), and tuition reimbursement.All qualified applicants will be given equal consideration regardless of race, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, color, religion, protected veteran status or national origin.
