Lead Software Engineer
AEP Hawaii is partnering with Ecos Health, a Hawaii-based early stage startup to hire Lead Software Engineer on Oahu as they raise their first round of capital.Location: Hawaii (Hybrid / Honolulu)Role Type: Contract / Part-timeAbout Ecos HealthEcos Health is building a pioneering "kernel" for healthcare workflows. We are moving beyond traditional components to build broad, integrated systems that solve complex logistics and workflow challenges in the healthcare space. We are currently in an early, high-growth stage where engineers have the autonomy to shape the foundational technology from the ground up.Our Mission: Life-Saving Insights, DeliveredAt Ecos Health, we aren't just building another healthcare application; we are architecting the "kernel" for healthcare workflows. Our mission is to move the industry beyond "stone age" manual processes and siloed EHRs by building integrated systems that solve complex logistics and real-time medical scheduling challenges. We provide the infrastructure that turns fragmented medical data into life-saving insights. The Role: The Systems BuilderWe are seeking a Lead Software Engineer who is an "A-Player" and a systems-builder at heart. This role is not for someone who wants to maintain a single feature or a few components. We need an architect who can build substantial systems from scratch and navigate high levels of ambiguity to figure out solutions for problems that haven't been pre-specified. You will have deep autonomy to select the supplementary technologies required to scale our vision, provided you respect the Python-based core and the "hard-won insights" already built into our foundational architecture.Key ResponsibilitiesKernel Architecture: Design and implement robust, scalable systems that serve as the workflow engine for high-stakes healthcare logistics.Complex Orchestration: Develop sophisticated distributed workflows and LLM-powered engines to automate clinical insights and real-time scheduling.Healthcare Interoperability: Build mission-critical integrations with Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and other medical data sources (HL7 FHIR) while ensuring strict HIPAA compliance.Hands-on Leadership: Write high-quality, efficient Python code while defining the engineering standards and technical culture of the founding team.Problem Navigation: Thrive in an environment where you are expected to define "what's next" without a pre-existing roadmap.Who You AreThe Systems Builder: You have a proven track record of building substantial, broad systems from scratch in small, early-stage companies.A-Player Mentality: You are highly motivated, comfortable with ambiguity, and have a history of solving complex problems in regulated or logistics-heavy spaces.Python Expert: Expert-level proficiency in Python is a must, as it is the core of the Ecos Health kernel.Health Tech Native: You understand the rigors of building software for clinically sensitive, HIPAA-compliant, or FDA-regulated environments.Hawaii-Rooted: This is a local, hybrid role. We are looking for candidates currently in Hawaii or those with strong ties ready to relocate back home to Honolulu. Why Join Us?High Ownership: Significant influence over technical architecture, product direction, and the ability to choose your own supplementary tech stack.Mission-Driven Work: Solve problems at the intersection of healthcare and AI that directly impact patient outcomes and lives.
