Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer

Join Our Team as a Water/Wastewater Engineer at ARRO Consulting!This position is responsible for leading and managing a variety of water and wastewater engineering projects, including planning, design, permitting, construction administration, and client coordination. The Water/Wastewater Engineer applies technical expertise and project management skills to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that support community infrastructure and environmental sustainability.The Water/Wastewater Engineer works closely with clients, regulatory agencies, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations. This role also supports business development initiatives and provides mentorship and guidance to junior engineering staff.This position reports to the Regional Manager or Practice Leader.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesLead and manage water and wastewater engineering projects from planning and design through construction and project closeout.Perform engineering design, technical analysis, feasibility studies, and evaluations for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.Prepare and review engineering reports, calculations, specifications, drawings, and project documentation.Develop construction cost estimates, project schedules, and budget tracking documentation.Coordinate permitting activities and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction observation activities as required.Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and supporting successful project delivery.Coordinate and collaborate with internal project teams, subconsultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.Monitor project progress to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.Support proposal preparation, presentations, and other business development activities.Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and supervision to junior and mid-level engineering staff.Any other duties, as necessary, to drive to the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the organization.Required Skills/KnowledgeBachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering field; Master’s degree preferred.Professional Engineer (PE) license required.Minimum of 5–15 years of relevant experience in water and wastewater engineering.Strong technical expertise in the design, permitting, and construction administration of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.Experience managing engineering projects, schedules, budgets, and client relationships.Knowledge of applicable industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.Ability to prepare and review technical reports, engineering calculations, and construction documents.Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.Experience with proposal preparation and business development activities is preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and applicable engineering software programs.Physical Requirements – Work EnvironmentAbility to sit for prolonged periods while working at a computer workstation.Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and reviewing engineering documents.Ability to occasionally travel to project sites, client meetings, and field locations.Ability to lift and carry light materials or equipment (typically up to 20–25 pounds).Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as reviewing technical documents, drawings, and engineering calculations.Work environment consists of a combination of office-based work, client meetings, and occasional field visits to active project sites.Field work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, construction activities, and operational facilities.Noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.May require occasional extended hours to meet project deadlines and client needs.BenefitsARRO offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, and professional development support. This position primarily involves office-based work with opportunities for field visits, client meetings, and hybrid work available upon meeting performance expectations and demonstrating an understanding of ARRO’s processes, as approved by the supervisor.
