About Pareto.AIPareto.AI is a human data platform connecting experienced professionals with leading AI researchers to help build safer, more reliable AI systems grounded in real-world expertise.Project OverviewThis project focuses on improving the ability of advanced AI systems to perform complex legal reasoning rooted in patent law and IP protection. We are building an AI legal assistant capable of analyzing patent claims, evaluating prior art, drafting patent-related documents, and producing structured IP analysis reflective of professional patent practice.Whom We're Looking ForRegistered patent attorneys and agents with substantive experience in patent prosecution, litigation, or IP strategy. Given the technical nature of patent work, candidates with both a JD and a technical or scientific background are strongly encouraged to apply. Ideal backgrounds include:Patent prosecution (utility, design, or plant patents)Patent litigation or post-grant proceedingsIP due diligence for M&A or licensing transactionsTechnology transfer or university IP counselIn-house patent counsel at technology or life sciences companiesPatent strategy and portfolio managementScope of WorkSelected experts will design and evaluate realistic legal tasks reflecting professional patent workflows. Examples include:Patent claim drafting, analysis, and prior art evaluationPatent application drafting and filing preparationIP due diligence review for M&A transactionsIP license agreement drafting and reviewTrade secret audit and identificationEvaluating AI-generated patent analysis for technical and legal accuracyCreating structured, multi-step patent reasoning tasksGrading model outputs and providing structured feedbackMinimum RequirementsJuris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degreeUSPTO registration (patent bar admission) strongly preferredActive or previously held license to practice lawTechnical or scientific background (engineering, life sciences, computer science, or related field) preferredExperience drafting or analyzing patent claims and applicationsIdeal ExperiencePatent prosecution experience across utility or design patentsIP due diligence or technology transfer experienceIP licensing or trade secret advisory experienceFamiliarity with USPTO processes, MPEP, and patent claim drafting conventionsExperience advising on patent strategy or portfolio managementFamiliarity with patent research tools (Google Patents, USPTO Patent Full-Text Database, Derwent)Due to compliance requirements, candidates based in the following US states must have an Established Business Entity (e.g. an LLC or similar), or establish one prior to being considered for further stages:CaliforniaWashingtonNew YorkTimeline and CommitmentThis project is an ongoing initiative with flexible participation.Accepted contributors will:Receive onboarding instructions after acceptanceBe expected to submit initial work within the first weekParticipate in periodic task submissions based on project needsAll submissions are reviewed for quality before moving contributors into the main expert pool.Time commitment: 10-15 hours/weekCompensationYou will be compensated $125/hour for approved submissions.
