Reading Municipal Light Department Summer Learning Program Temporary Student Internship Description There are two conditional temporary student internship opportunities available at RMLD for the Summer of 2026. Each is an on-site position located at 230 Ash Street, Reading, MA 01867. The intern positions are assigned specific work hours that differ according to the needs and demands of each division. Please review the following descriptions. Upon application, RMLD will consider each applicant for the openings for which they have applied.Customer Service, IRD Division Intern Hours: Monday-Thursday 7:30AM to 5:30PMThe Customer Service Intern assists with the day-to-day support the Customer Service Team provides. The position is in a fast-paced environment and requires organizational skills, a professional demeanor, ability to multi-task and prioritize, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate information appropriately and sometimes under difficult situations.Job activities typically include:Performing complete customer service and support duties to meet evolving customer demands.Addressing and reaching resolution on customer inquiries.Assisting with maintenance of the front counter by processing payments and handling customer inquiries using RMLD's CRM and billing software.Assisting in managing the reception area to ensure effective in-person, telephone, and mail communications both internally and externally.Retrieving daily mail off site and distributing/coordinating incoming and outgoing mail packages accordingly.Desired Skills/Education:Customer Service ExperienceExperience with Microsoft Office ProductsMarketing, IRD Division Intern Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Hours may be available to flex and may include hours for events in the evening or weekends as determined by the Marketing Manager.The marketing intern assists the RMLD marketing team with day-to-day activities to engage our customers, promote RMLD programs, and inspire energy efficiency and electrification. The marketing intern will support the marketing team in executing marketing strategies across various channels, including in-person events, traditional and social media, email, and web.Marketing Intern responsibilities may include:Market Research: Gathering and analyzing data on consumer preferences, competitors, and like utilities, and market trends to inform marketing strategies. Tracking earned media mentions.Social Media Monitoring: Tracking and reporting on social media performance metrics, providing insights to optimize engagement.Administrative Support: Performing general clerical tasks including but not limited to updating or maintaining marketing materials, organizing files and digital/image libraries, performing partner or customer outreach, ordering supplies, and creating or updating in-office displays.Event Planning: Acting as key contact and providing planning and execution support for two large scale events.Content Creation: Creating engaging content for social media, and promotional materials, including photo and video assets to add to the RMLD digital library.Additional duties designated by the RMLD marketing team.The position is in a fast-paced environment and requires organizational skills, a professional and collaborative demeanor, ability to multi-task and prioritize, and attention to detail.Preferred Skills/Education:Rising College Sophomore, Junior or Senior, enrolled in a marketing-focused programBasic understanding of marketing principlesGeneral social media knowledge and awarenessExperience with Microsoft Office Suite and PC platformBasic understanding of website content, email marketing, and basic marketing metricsStrong written and oral communication skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlinesCollaborative mindset and ability to work in a team environmentOptional Skills:Familiarity with content planning and editorial calendarsExperience with content creation and/or Canva design softwareExperience with event planning or managementKnowledge of Google AnalyticsInterest in or experience with brand storytelling, demographics, and customer engagementThe marketing intern will report to the marketing manager and work collaboratively with the marketing communications coordinator.
