SUMMARY: The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the accounting system at the client-Indiana location. The Assistant Controller will also be responsible for supervising accounting staff. The Assistant Controller’s duties involve Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Journal Entries, Cash Management, monthly and annual closings, generating Financial Statements, reconciliation of Item Ledger (sub-ledgers) to General Ledger, Material in Transit (MIT), inventory reconciliation (including off-site locations). Will be part of the management team analyzing financial conditions on a regular. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. · Carry out monthly and annual closings of books, within 3 days. · Financial Statement generation and analysis including consolidation with corporate. · Develop and improve internal policies and procedures and ensure that company policies and procedures are followed. · Posting batches including A/P, A/R and J/Es. · Responsible for invoicing, preparation and follow-up with Toyota and other customers, process steel mill payment and invoicing to steel mills/outside processors. · Balance Sheet reconciliations including accrued revenue and expense accounts, pre-paids, transfer suspense accounts, and MIT reconciliation. · Inventory Reconciliation including MST facility, Steel Mills, Toyota, and Outside Processor locations; Item Ledger vs. General Ledger analysis. · Accounts Receivable analysis including unapplied cash research, collections, etc. · Oversees check runs, and company credit card programs. · Budgeting, including assisting management and Sales with budget preparation and analysis. · Both internal and external audit support and coordination. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training; planning, assigning and directing work; assisting management with the establishment and maintenance of work instructions, process procedures, and standards for processing functions; appraising performance; rewarding employees; developing standards for operational activities; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Four-year Accounting degree from a college or university; and five years’ experience as a staff accountant; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with MAS500 accounting/Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) type environment is strongly preferred. Experience in steel processing or automotive environment preferable though not required. Have GAAP & IFRS understanding. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, quality manuals, operational procedures, work instructions, and technical manuals. Ability to write work instructions, root cause analysis, routine reports, and business correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply basic and advanced accounting and financial concepts. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to interpret computer programs and spreadsheets. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use various personal computer software (Microsoft Office, etc.). Ability to use ten-key calculator, perform data entry, and use various personal computer software (Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel). Ability to use small business accounting systems such as Peachtree Accounting and ability to function in an ERP type environment such as MAS500, SAP, Oracle Financials or any such system. Having Crystal Reports experience would be a benefit.
