This role bridges traditional industrial arts (woodworking, manufacturing, and craftsmanship) with modern STEM disciplines including Robotics and Engineering Design. The ideal candidate will foster a "Maker" mindset, teaching students how to safely use tools and technology to solve real-world problems through the Engineering Design Process.QUALIFICATIONS:Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate with Technology Education (1810) endorsement. Candidates with the older Industrial Arts endorsement are also eligible and encouraged to applyDemonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activitiesProficiency in traditional shop tools (table saws, drill presses, hand tools).Personal Attributes: High energy, extremely safety-conscious, and a passion for "learning by doing."Strong interpersonal and communication skillsKnowledge of the following technology skills are an added benefit:Robotics platforms (VEX, LEGO, or similar).CAD/CAM software and 3D printing.Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien statusPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Develops and administers age-appropriate projects for every grade (K-8) that progress from basic fine motor skills and simple machines (Primary) to complex fabrication and programming (Middle School).Weave robotics and/or engineering principles into the core Industrial Arts curriculum.Instruct students in the safe and proper use of hand tools, power tools, and digital fabrication equipment (3D printers).Standards Alignment: Ensure all lessons align with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) 8.2: Design Thinking.Lead students through the "Design-Build-Test" cycle, encouraging perseverance through iterative failure and redesign.Adapt technical projects to meet the needs of diverse learners, including those with IEPs and 504 plans.Maintain a rigorous safety program. Provide mandatory safety training and testing for all students before tool/machinery use.Manage the shop/lab budget, order consumables (wood, plastic, electronic components), and maintain an organized inventory of all tools and supplies.Ensure all machinery and tech equipment are in good working order and meet OSHA/School safety standards.Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.Coordinates with other special area professional staff members to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.ADDITIONAL DUTIES:Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Chief School Administrator/ Principal.Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities.
