Description of the Organization:For almost 30 years, LEAP has worked with children, teenagers, and young adults in New Haven, Connecticut in some of the lowest income urban neighborhoods in America. As the largest youth agency in our city, we provide free academic support, social enrichment, and leadership development, but we do so in a unique way. We give older students (ages 16-24) the training, education, and resources they need to work as counselors to our younger students (ages 7-15). In doing so, we go beyond impacting individual lives through education and employment. The Site Coordinator, with support and supervision from the Director of Children's Programs with oversight from the Director of Programs, takes responsibility for the quality of all operations in one of LEAP's neighborhood sites. The Site Coordinator leads the development and management of Assistant Site Coordinators, Senior Counselors, and Junior Counselors as they implement social and academic programming for children.This is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position. This is a highly visible position requiring effective interaction and communication with a wide range of internal staff and outside entities.Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership & OperationsBuild strong, meaningful, long-term relationships with children on site and guide them in their academic and social development at LEAPPlan and coordinate activities to recruit childrenCreate engaging site-wide and neighborhood cultural events that build a sense of unity, fun, and teamworkDesign innovative program activities to give children and counselors new learning opportunitiesEstablish site norms and expectations (attendance, group management, etc.)Establish daily site schedules based on curriculum structure and counselor availabilityCrisis Management & Individual SupportTroubleshoot on-site crises involving children or counselors and create strategies to meet individual needsAssess community to identify community leaders and community-based resources; create effective collaborationsStaff Development & ManagementMentor and develop counselors in their professional growth; guide counselors in planning and implementing educational group activitiesPlan and facilitate dynamic, exciting site-based training that prepares counselors to teach and mentor childrenConduct formal, ongoing performance evaluations of counselorsManage counselors while living on-site with counselors during the summer componentCollaborate with other Site Coordinators to brainstorm, evaluate, and plan the future of LEAP's Children's ProgramCommunity & School PartnershipsCreate strong, collaborative relationships with parents and maintain regular communication about children's progressNurture positive relationships with school administrators and staffFacilitate regular communication with teachers to promote student progressEstablish trust and accountability systems with teachers who share their classrooms with LEAPParticipate in school meetings and activitiesAdministrative ResponsibilitiesCheck in regularly with the Children's Program DirectorWrite and submit regular reports to the Children's Program DirectorManage site finances and budgetTake an active role in regular staff meetings, debriefings, training, and planning sessionThe Site Coordinator receives direction, coaching, and evaluation from the Director of Children's Programs with oversight from the Director of Programs.Required QualificationsEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education or equivalent experience in youth development, education, or related fieldExperience in youth leadership development, community service, and/or tutoringKnowledge & SkillsStrong belief in the importance of educational opportunities for children and youth from high-poverty urban communitiesCommitment to working with others to inspire positive social change through education, service, and community developmentExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong organizational abilities to handle multiple tasksSpanish and English bilingual desirableTechnical SkillsComputer proficiencyFinancial management and budget oversight capabilitiesReport writing and documentation skillsCore CompetenciesFlexibility to work evenings and weekendsAbility to live full-time in the neighborhoods that we serve for 10 weeks during the summerLeadership and mentorship capabilitiesCrisis management and problem-solving skillsCommunity engagement and relationship-building abilitiesCultural competency and sensitivity to diverse populationsSalary:Commensurate with experience ($50k - $52k).
