Our services include trash, recycling, yard waste and large object collection.To learn more about the Sanitation Division click HERE!General Description:The City of Jacksonville is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Sanitation Worker to join our team in the Sanitation Division. The Sanitation Worker performs responsible unskilled manual work in the collection of solid refuse, recyclables, appliances, yard and bulky waste; does related work as required. Work is performed under immediate supervision. You'll work on collection routes, handling trash, recycling, yard waste, and bulky items while riding on the back of trucks. Duties include cart delivery and repair, assisting drivers, maintaining clean vehicles, and safely disposing of materials at designated sites. No two days are the same, and teamwork is key. The City offers great training opportunities for career development and advancement through onsite and offsite training with many of our Recycling & Trash Services Workers earning their Commercial Driver's License (CDL) while working, and promote up to an Operator/Driver!The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $31, 327.28 - $40,725.47 depending on qualifications.Essential Functions/Typical TasksCollecting municipal solid waste, trash and recyclables; pushing and pulling carts; lifting and dumping garbage cans and containers; directing traffic.(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)Collects residential refuse, recyclable materials, yard waste, construction materials, appliances, tires, motor oils and bulky waste items such as furniture.Cleans area around collection containers and collection truck during route collection.Operates cart lift mechanism to dump collection carts.Operates packer blade mechanism to compress refuse.Directs traffic and guides truck operations in congested areas of the collection route.Keeps abreast of OSHA, ANSI solid waste policies and standards.Assists with the Dial-A-Truck program.Disseminates information to the general public concerning basic collection route.Cleans and washes refuse collection equipment.Assembles and cleans refuse collection containers.Performs related tasks as requiredRequired Education and ExperienceAny combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to perform continuous heavy manual work at a steady pace in adverse weather conditions; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; dependability; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.Equal Employment OpportunityThe City of Jacksonville is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
