Sr Software Quality Engineer
Overview
In this hands-on Technical Lead role, you will drive an automation-first, AI-enabled quality strategy across Michaels.com, mobile apps, APIs, and third-party integrations. You’ll scale and unify test automation frameworks, improve release confidence, and lead quality initiatives across multiple teams. You will work closely with engineering, product, architecture, and DevOps to set quality standards and ensure release readiness. This position offers the chance to shape scalable QA practices in a fast-paced, innovative retail tech environment.

ResponsibilitiesDefine and implement automation strategy across e-commerce, mobile, APIs, backend services, and third-party integrationsEstablish automation as primary approach for regression, functional, integration, and end-to-end testingPartner with Engineering, Product, Architecture and DevOps to set quality standards and release readiness criteriaDrive shift-left testing, continuous testing, and quality ownership throughout the SDLCDefine automation KPIs (coverage, defect leakage, execution time, flaky tests, escaped defects, release quality)Mentor QA engineers and establish engineering standards, reusable frameworks, and best practicesLead automation for Michaels.com digital commerce experiences, including cross-browser, accessibility, and end-to-end automationOwn automation strategy for iOS and Android mobile apps, including device/browser coverage on cloud platformsBuild automation using Playwright API, Postman/Newman, Karate (JS/TS) and validate service-to-service integrationsImplement contract and integration testing for distributed services and integrate API automation into CI/CD pipelinesEstablish AI-first QA automation strategy using GenAI tools and AI-assisted test generation, data generation, and regression optimizationIntegrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and establish quality gates for sprint releasesParallel and distributed test execution to reduce regression cycle timeCollaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality in the product lifecycleOther duties as assigned
Key requirements5+ years of experience in quality assuranceStrong hands-on experience in Playwright with JavaScript/TypeScriptExperience designing scalable automation frameworksPage Object Model / component-based automationParallel execution, distributed testing and CI/CD integrationStrong working knowledge of modern AI development and QA tools (GitHub Copilot, Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, open-source LLMs)AI-powered test generation and prompt engineeringAI agent testing and agentic QA automationProven ability to work in fast-paced, agile environments with multiple prioritiesExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong communication and collaboration across cross-functional teamsDetail-oriented but able to see the bigger picturePlaywright (JavaScript/TypeScript)Postman/NewmanKarate
