As a member of the operations team, the Test Engineer performs a variety of routine and non-routine mechanical testing assignments, with a primary focus on fracture mechanics, and ensures timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision.Element's Aerospace group supports aircraft, space, and defense manufacturers through comprehensive mechanical testing and materials evaluation. Our services include fracture toughness, fatigue crack growth, residual strength, and structural integrity testing to support certification, qualification, and life-prediction of aerospace materials and components. We provide technically rigorous testing solutions aligned with customer, industry, and regulatory requirements throughout development, qualification, and production.Salary: $0- $0/hr DOEResponsibilitiesProvide technical and engineering leadership in aerospace mechanical testing, with an emphasis on fracture mechanics, fatigue, and structural integrity Support the development and implementation of new testing methods, fixtures, and technologies within the local laboratoryBe accountable for the accurate and timely release of test data to customers, including review and sign-off of quality control dataObtain guidance for non-routine or novel testing scenarios while demonstrating increasing technical independenceOversee standard and routine technical problem-solving activities related to test execution, data validity, and equipment performanceInteract directly with customers on technical questions related to test methods, standards, and results interpretationDeliver formal and informal technical presentations on conventional and routine aerospace testing to internal and external stakeholderAssist in the training and professional development of technicians and junior engineers within the laboratoryPerform critical examination, interpretation, and validation of test concepts, procedures, and fracture mechanics dataApply a broad range of engineering skills, test methods, procedures, and materials knowledge in advanced mechanical testing analysisDraw upon internal expertise, applicable aerospace standards, and industry or academic resources to support testing conclusionsSkills / QualificationsWorking knowledge of laboratory safetyPossess a high level of expertise related to scope, core theories, concepts, terminologies and boundaries of chosen engineering disciplinePossess a Bachelors of Science degree in a science or testing related fieldHave a minimum of 2 years' pertinent post degree engineering experience, or advanced academic/professional qualificationsPossesses a demonstrated ability to apply academic knowledge within the context of Element's businessIn-depth understanding of testing conceptsCan analyze and compiles testing data from the tests performedPossess strong computer skillsAbility to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plusHave the ability to work on well-defined issues, standard and/or routine tests, without significant guidance or supervisionTakes Initiative and, in most cases, does not need to wait for further instructionAble to decide on and implement appropriate testing methods and protocolsLeads and assigns the work of others when neededAnalytical/technical knowledge provides a marked impact on overall laboratory technical capabilities and servicesAdapt at managing job priority and work time in accordance with targets/goals set by supervisorUnder the close guidance of advanced Engineers in the laboratory, works on well delineated technical issues including standard and routine analysisDefined work experience has impact on the day to day technical decisions made on timely delivery of laboratory testing services and customer supportRecognized by colleagues within the lab as possessing strong technical knowledgeHas a clearly demonstrated ability to apply an array of testing techniques in a rational and practical style to help examine issues and build solutions#LI-TK1Company OverviewElement is one of the fastest growing testing, inspection and certification businesses in the world.
