LEGACY EARLY COLLEGE OVERVIEWLegacy Early College is a K4-12 public charter school that originated through the vision of businessman William Brown in 2009 with an unwavering focus on “To and Through College” at every grade level. Legacy’s model combines academics, nutrition, physical fitness, and mental health. In addition to our college-driven academic standards, meals are made on site, scholars participate in PE every day, and Social-Emotional Literacy is integrated into the culture and curriculum. POSITION OVERVIEWLegacy Early College (“Legacy”) seeks an exceptional High School Social Studies Teacher for our 9th – 12th grade scholars. The teacher is responsible for delivering effective, high-quality, rigorous instruction in their content areas that produce unmatched results and student understanding. The candidate must be able to create and maintain a climate that promotes knowledge, skills, and character traits needed to succeed through college and beyond. This position reports to the School Principal.ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDutiesPlan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the studentsCreate a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the studentsPrepare lessons that reflect best practices and accommodations for individual differences of studentsPrepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisorEncourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behaviorGuide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to the studentsEmploy a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with best practices, specific content knowledge, the physical limitations of the space provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the school’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectivesAssess student learning, through observations, authentic performance, and more formal methods, in an ongoing manner, providing frequent student feedback, information to parents and written progress reportsTake necessary and reasonable precautions to assure safety in the classroom and the school for all studentsMaintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulationsAssist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conductDevelop reasonable rules of classroom behaviorMaintain order in the classroom in a fair and just mannerMaintain and improve professional competenceParticipate in all professional development opportunitiesActively participate in team meeting sand serve on staff committeesMaintain a professional relationship with colleaguesEstablish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community membersPerform other job-related duties as assignedSkills & QualificationsBachelor’s degree, requiredSouth Carolina teaching certificate, preferredSpanish speaking ability, preferredStrong organization and project management skillsSuperb written and oral communication skillsExceptional attention to detail and follow-throughK-12 teaching experience highly, preferredWork ScheduleTeachers will operate on the Legacy Early College academic calendar, on the 195-day (10-month school year) schedule.
