Job Description
Purpose Statement: The High School Teacher is responsible for supporting instruction by supervising students, developing lesson plans, delivering instruction, collaborating with colleagues, and responding to inquiries.
Essential Functions
Administers and develops subject-specific assessments.
Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress.
Assesses student progress toward objectives.
Collaborates with instructional staff, parents, and community resources.
Counsels students for improving performance and personal issues.
Demonstrates and differentiates methods required to perform classroom assignments.
Instructs students to improve academic success.
Manages student behavior to provide a safe learning environment.
Monitors students in various educational environments.
Participates in meetings and professional development activities.
Prepares written materials for documenting progress.
Reports incidents to maintain safety and comply with laws and policies.
Directs assistant teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers.
Responds to emergency situations for immediate safety concerns.
Responds to inquiries from various sources.
Supports other classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and individual student plans.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills required: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge required: basic math; reading technical information; knowledge of codes, policies, regulations; age-appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; behavioral management strategies.
Abilities required: scheduling activities, meetings, or events; gathering, collating, and classifying data; using job-related equipment; flexibility to work with others; analyzing data; operating equipment; working with diverse individuals; problem solving; maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting tact and patience; working flexible hours.
Responsibility: Working under limited supervision; directing other persons within a small work unit; tracking budget expenditures.
Working Environment
Physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; fine finger dexterity; ~40% sitting, ~20% walking, ~40% standing. Clean and healthy environment.
Experience
Job-related experience required.
Clearances
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Education
Minimum of Bachelor's degree in a job-related area.
Continuing Education/Training
Maintain Licensure (Renew or Advance).
Certificates and Licenses
Teacher Certification and/or License in the subject area.
