This employee role is a great fit for early-career professionals eager to gain experience in strategic communications while contributing to meaningful, community-based work.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide day-to-day support for client projects, under the direction of account leads.Assist with drafting communications materials such as press releases, social media posts, newsletters, and event briefs.Conduct research on media, policy, and community issues to inform client strategies.Support community engagement activities, including outreach, logistics, and meeting preparation.Monitor media coverage and compile reports for client accounts.Help maintain project timelines, deliverables, and documentation.Bring curiosity, creativity, and mutual respect to all aspects of the work.Qualifications1–2 years of experience in communications, media, community relations, or related internships (or equivalent academic background).Strong writing and editing skills, with attention to detail.Experience with graphic design and visual communications, including creating materials that are clear, engaging, and on-brand.Familiarity with Hawaiʻi communities and issues; preference for candidates connected to Hawaiʻi Island or Maui.Familiarity with ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (commonly used words and phrases at minimum).Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly.Organized, responsive, and comfortable managing multiple tasks.Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, Hawaiian studies, or related field preferred, but not required.Desired AttributesEager to learn and grow in the field of strategic communications.Strong sense of responsibility and follow-through.Kamaʻāina sensibilities: an understanding of Hawaiʻi’s unique history, values, and community dynamics.Adaptable, flexible, and ready to support in a fast-paced environment.Employee StatusThis position is offered as a full-time employee with Paʻakai Communications. As an employee, you will follow established work schedules and expectations, while collaborating closely with the team to meet deadlines and deliverables. Paʻakai Communications will provide applicable benefits and will handle payroll taxes in accordance with employment regulations.LocationThis position prioritizes candidates connected to O’ahu, Hawaiʻi Island or Maui.
