Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed salary range listed above.This position will be located at Cuivre River State Park 678 State Route 147, Troy, Mo. 63379. Typical work schedule will be Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a 30-minute lunch break. Weekend, night and holiday shifts will be required in both the on and off season that may include visitor center duties, interpretive duties and administrative duties.Coordinate, design and conduct interpretive programming, outreach programming and special events related to the natural and cultural features of the facility. Participate in broader interpretive activities that may encompass the region, the division, the local community and other organizations.Assist with the management of the visitor/interpretive center operations, supervise seasonal interpreters and stewardship employees, and assist with administrative functions for the facility.Work with, lead, supervise and direct volunteer and temporary workers in the areas of resource stewardship and both on and off-site interpretation.Actively participate in the natural resource stewardship at the facility.Actively and physically participate in the prescribed fire program and exotic species control activities.Determine need for and lead ecosystem restoration programs.Survey, assess, and make recommendations for natural resource management.Monitor animal populations and provide recommendations.Conduct scientific research to diagnose problems.Research, organize, present results, and prepare records and reports.Educate and enforce park/site rules and regulations.Work with multiple departments and inter-agencies on the State and Federal level.To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.Flexibility: Is open to change and new information; adapts behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles; effectively deals with uncertainty.Customer Service: Anticipates and meets the needs of both internal and external customers. Deliver high-quality products and services; is committed to continuous improvement.Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.Equivalent To Those Typically Gained ByBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Biology, Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Forestry, Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Management or related field and 2 to 4 years of relevant experience in natural resource management, scientific research methods and applications, or field identification of flora and fauna. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)Other Preferred Qualifications/Experience/Special Job RequirementsAbility to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.Ability to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certification as needed; required S130/190 Fire Training for prescribed burns.Available to participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays.Ability to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift 25 pounds with or without an accommodation.Knowledge of natural and cultural resource preservation methods and techniques.Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in person and with written correspondence.Ability to lead and direct small groups for glade and fire line prep work.
