Assistant Controller
The Assistant Controller for a multi-location equipment and services organization oversees day-to-day accounting operations for a business unit. Reporting to the Controller, this role directs monthly, quarterly, and annual close procedures, financial reporting and analysis, forecasting, and budgeting activities. The Assistant Controller also provides leadership to the teams responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and general ledger accounting, serving as a hands-on leader with direct visibility to executive leadership.
What to Expect in the Role
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team covering accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, and general ledger functions.
Review accounting transactions and reporting for accuracy, compliance, and adherence to accounting standards and company policies.
Prepare monthly financial statements, variance analyses, key performance indicators (KPIs), forecasts, and annual budgets.
Oversee periodic physical inventory counts and fixed asset verification across multiple locations.
Coordinate internal and external audit activities.
Manage commission payout processes in collaboration with payroll and operational leadership.
Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Identify and drive process improvement initiatives across accounting, finance, and operational functions.
Partner with operational leaders to improve financial understanding and support business decision-making.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
CPA or CMA designation preferred.
5 to 10 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
Prior experience leading and developing accounting teams.
Experience working within large ERP systems and financial reporting platforms.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
Experience with Microsoft Power Platform tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, and Power Apps is a plus.
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of an organization.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to travel occasionally to support multiple business locations (up to 15%).
