Job DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Artesia, New Mexico.Job Description & RequirementsSpecialty: Med SurgDiscipline: RNStart Date: 05/25/2026Duration: 13 weeks36 hours per weekShift: 12 hours, daysEmployment Type: TravelAssignment OverviewShift: Days, 3x12hrsHours: 36 hrs/wkStart Date: May 25, 2026Length: 13 weeksOpenings: 3DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg (Inpatient) position at an acute care hospital in New Mexico, requiring at least 3 years of MS/Tele experience and the ability to titrate drips.DetailsAcute care hospital setting with a 26-bed Med/Surg unitPatient population includes medical, surgical, and PCU-level patients; no ICU on-site — critical patients are transferred to a higher-level facilityNurses may be called upon to rotate into the PCU area, where patients can be acutely ill and on drips or invasive monitorsNurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–5CNAs are available on the unit at a 1:8 ratio, handling vitals, ADLs, I/Os, transfers, transports, and showers; nurses are responsible for AccuChecksRespiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7, managing all respiratory equipment including continuous BiPAP/CPAPTitratable drips used include insulin, amiodarone, and norepinephrine (Levophed), with multiple drip protocols in placeTelemetry monitoring is performed using Mindray cardiac monitors; no dedicated monitor techs — nurses must read and interpret telemetry independentlyCharting is done in TruBridge (Evident/CPSI)12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)Every other weekend requiredNo call or standby requirementNo floating requirement for RNsRequirementsActive NM RN license or valid Compact RN license currently in handCurrent BLS and ACLS certifications requiredMinimum 3 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MS/Tele) experience requiredPCU or stepdown experience preferredAbility to titrate drips requiredAbility to read and interpret telemetry strips requiredLTAC experience is a plusAbility to maintain intubation is a plusAdditional InformationRequired online modules must be completed prior to starting on the floor; modules take approximately 20 hours to complete and will be assigned via email before the start of the assignmentUnit orientation is 1–2 days with a preceptor, depending on individual needsTravelers are not typically asked to serve in a charge nurse role; the charge nurse carries a lighter patient assignmentScheduling is based on 12-hour day shifts; travelers are asked to be flexible to help fill gaps in the permanent staff schedule — block scheduling is not guaranteedHoliday rotation coverage may be requiredNavy blue scrubs requiredThis small community hospital has a broad clinical scope and is currently working toward achieving Level IV Trauma designationFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyAmerican Traveler Job ID #P-702913.
