Assistant General Manager Operations

The Assistant General Manager of Operations (AGM Operations) oversees all back-of-house operations for an assigned group of retail stores, ensuring efficient inventory management, compliance, and loss prevention. This role is responsible for leading stock personnel, coordinating with airport facilities, and supporting the General Manager (GM) in achieving operational excellence.Location: Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)Job Responsibilities:Oversee all incoming inventory, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely product placement on the sales floorLead and manage stock personnel and Stock Lead(s), including training, scheduling, and performance evaluationsConduct second-round interviews for stock personnel, ensuring the selection of qualified candidatesServe as the primary liaison for Loss Prevention, working to reduce shrinkage due to theft or inventory discrepanciesAct as the point person for Airport Compliance Programs, ensuring stores adhere to all regulatory requirementsCoordinate with Airport Facilities on maintenance, store builds, and emergency situationsAct as Manager on Duty, performing opening and closing duties for the entire retail locationGain full proficiency in operational systems, including POS, StoreForce, ADP, Aptos, and PowerDMSAssist the General Manager with critical business initiatives, acting as a backup when neededSupport visual merchandising efforts, ensuring store displays are well-maintained and aligned with brand standardsCoach and manage stock team performance, providing feedback, training, and development opportunitiesEnsure compliance with company policies and safety proceduresPerform additional responsibilities as assigned by the General ManagerJob Requirements:High school diploma or GED required; a Bachelor’s degree in Management, Human Resources, or a related field is preferred3+ years of experience in retail inventory, warehouse, or stocking supervision1+ years of experience in a management or leadership roleProven ability to lead a team with a results-driven approachSelf-motivated and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environmentStrong problem-solving, multitasking, and organizational skillsAdvanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and inventory management systemsTAM Card (Alcohol Beverage Awareness Certification) may be required, depending on locationMust successfully complete the TSA Airport Badging Process, where applicableEmployment may be contingent upon passing background checks and/or drug screening, based on location requirementsAbout Us WHSmith is a leading global travel retailer with over 1,700 stores across 30 countries worldwide.
