The Mail Clerk serves as part of a team and works closely together daily with students, carriers, and mailroom staff. The mailroom provides services for over 6,000 on-grounds students. The successful candidate is reliable, detail oriented, accurate in utilizing the mailroom's computer system for receiving and distributing packages. Mail Clerks pick up, receive, sort and distribute external mail. They work with various carriers to receive and distribute packages. They operate and maintain mailroom equipment and vehicles. Work is assigned at the task level and performed under direct supervision. Mail Clerks work in direct contact with members of the University community including students, staff and faculty.
Responsibilities
Pick up mail from the main post office using mailroom vehicles. Deliver packages and mail to satellite location using mailroom vehicles
Sort mail into mailboxes and onto shelves; notify recipients of packages and uncollected mail; issue packages; assist customers with problems as requested
Process undeliverable mail.
Maintain Mail Preparation equipment and systems in proper working order; maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition
Coordinate with University Mail Services and Print as needed to support departmental operations
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure: Valid Virginia driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Customer Service
Basic computer knowledge preferred.
Physical Demands
This position will require a significant amount of standing while sorting mail, etc. Additionally, lifting mail, carrying mail, etc. is required, as well as keyboarding.
Salary
The anticipated salary is $20.00 per hour.
