Lead Structural Engineer
Overview
In this role you will lead high-level structural guidance for industrial water, mining, and infrastructure projects, shaping design across concept to construction. You will work within the US Mining & Metal, Process & Infrastructure Design team to drive safe, durable solutions and mentor engineers. You’ll engage with clients and regulators to ensure compliance while advancing technology-driven, future-ready structural design. This is a hands-on leadership position with a clear impact on project quality, safety, and delivery.

ResponsibilitiesOversee structural design for complex industrial projects across multiple concurrent initiativesMentor junior engineers and manage structural engineers and designersCoordinate data collection and analysis from site surveys, GIS, geotechnical data and hydrologic analysesDevelop construction plans, specs, costs, and phasing plans with cross-disciplinary coordinationGuide design from conception to operation, ensuring durability under environmental loadsIncorporate advanced modeling, materials, and monitoring technologies for end-user safety and functionalityReview and approve design plans for code compliance and data integrityPrepare technical reports, visualizations, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendationsLead safety plan development and coordinate with regulatory agencies and clientsCollaborate with engineers, architects, planners, and authorities on projects and proposalsStay current with structural engineering practices and advise on process improvementsDemonstrate QA/QC and lead subcontractor coordination with safety and efficiency in mindOccasional travel as required by project needs
Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering; 7–10 years of experienceProfessional engineer licenseStrong knowledge of infrastructure planning, design, and construction managementExperience with rehabilitation, new design and construction projectsProficiency in structural analysis, code compliance, and design calculationsAbility to plan inspections and interpret plans and specsExcellent interpersonal and written communication skillsAbility to work independently and lead teams with QA/QC disciplineProficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMSCommitment to safety and regulatory complianceWillingness to travel as neededStrong leadership and mentoring abilitiesEffective communication with engineering and non-engineering audiencesStrategic thinking and proactive problem-solvingMicroStationAutoCADCivil 3D
