Doing so will allow us to keep your information on file and contact you promptly for an interview when a position becomes available.Job Title: School NurseJob Purpose: To establish standards of health care for school children and provide the best available nursing care; provide support to students via the physical, emotional/psychological, and social areas to ensure students' safety and healthKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, first aid, illnesses and injuries, nutrition, and related areas.Ability to diagnose and provide care for ill or injured students.Ability to convey appropriate medical information to school district staff or medical professionals to ensure a proper maintenance in the school setting.Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed for position.Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Powerpoint, the Internet, Outlook, electronic mail).Ability to problem solve job-related issues.Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and students with special needs.Ability to follow oral and written orders from supervisors, administrators, physicians, and to coordinate work with principal, teachers and others.Ability to describe orally and in writing school health services provided, issues and concerns regarding school health.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.Minimum Qualifications:Valid Mississippi RN LicenseOne year work experience in a health care situationReports To: Building AdministrationSupervises: N/ADuties & Responsibilities:Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.Fosters awareness of any health care act that may have an impact on school health services and education.Provides health counseling and health guidance.Provides group guidance and counseling on health care issues.Maintain medical kits for schools.Assist in controlling spread of head lice by checking students for evidence of infestation and/or treatment at request of administrators;Conducts vision and hearing screening for all first and fourth grade students in accordance with Child Find Procedures.Keep adequate medical records on all students screened to include copies of all medical reports, parental contacts and cooperation, and any follow up information.Conduct health education in-service at the request of the Directors of Special Education and / or Federal Programs.Maintain resource list of specialists who accept Medicaid.Assist parents in scheduling all follow-up appointments with appropriate medical personnel and in understanding medical directions that need to be followed.Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, and significant others on health care matters.Uses techniques of observation, percussion, palpation, auscultation, instrumentation, and laboratory procedures to assess the health status of the child.Assesses physical and psycho-social development of the school-aged child.Serves on school health-related committees.Serves as liaison and resource person between school faculty, students, and parents.Reports communicable diseases as directed by state and World Health Organization guidelines.Correlates health appraisals and screening procedures.Serves as an active member of the school health team to identify perceptual and learning disabilities.Establishes channels of communication with community resources that facilitate referrals and follows up through use of physical, emotional, social, and educational disabilities.Maintains membership to professional organizations.Attends workshops, seminars, or college courses to maintain and update professional skills and knowledge.Perform other job related tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.Limited travel to and from meetings may be required.Supports the George County School District Core Beliefs and Mission.Terms of Employment: 180 Days / At WillFLSA Status: Exempt
