Nutrition Consultant (Registered Dietitian) - Contract Position
The Nutrition Services Consultant (RD) will lead the design and delivery of nutrition education and counseling services under New York State’s Health Equity Reform Medicaid Waiver (1115 Waiver). This consultant will support eligible Medicaid recipients through individual and group-based nutrition services focused on improving nutritional health, managing chronic conditions, and supporting food security.This role supports reimbursable services outlined in Section 3.1 of the Medicaid Waiver and is central to the organization’s population health strategy.This is a 6-month consultant position with scope and hours defined by service delivery needs and waiver requirements. There is a possibility to extend beyond the first 6 months, depending on performance.Role/ResponsibilitiesServe as part of an interdisciplinary care team by delivering authorized nutrition services under Waiver Section 3.1, including:Initial nutrition assessments (CPT 97802)Re-assessments (CPT 97803)Group nutrition education sessions (CPT 97804)Provide evidence-based nutrition education and counseling on:Meal planning and preparationChronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, food allergies, obesity)Grocery shopping strategies and food budgetingCoordinate with Community Health Workers, Referral Coordinators, and Care Managers to receive referrals and support individualized care planningMaintain accurate, timely, and HIPAA-compliant documentation in the electronic health recordTrack service units delivered and support Medicaid billing and reimbursement documentationCollaborate on implementation of medically tailored meals and food prescription initiatives, as applicableParticipate in required trainings, meetings, and quality improvement activities related to Medicaid Waiver implementationSupport data collection, reporting, and compliance requirements at the state and federal levelMeet agreed-upon performance benchmarks related to documentation accuracy, engagement, and service delivery timelinesQualifications & CompetenciesRegistered Dietitian (RD) or Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) credential requiredNYS licensure requiredStrong understanding of food insecurity, social determinants of health, and chronic disease managementExperience working with Medicaid populations and underserved communities preferredExcellent communication, organizational, and EHR documentation skillsAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teamsAdditionalEqual Employment OpportunityRonald McDonald House New York believes that all employees are entitled to Equal Employment Opportunity. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.The office for this job is located in the same facility where RMH-NY provides temporary accommodations to pediatric patients and their families while the patients are undergoing active medical treatment at area hospitals. For some RMH-NY guests, medical treatment may include radiation therapy. While radiation therapy is never administered at RMH-NY, there is the potential for some radioactive material to be present in guests who have undergone radiation therapy. Based on radiation measurements performed throughout RMH-NY, it is not expected that individuals working at RMH will receive radiation doses that would exceed the general public limit (100 millirem per year).The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Noise levels often increase with families and children who have temporary residence in the building as well as guests and musical performers for special events.This position requires flexible schedule at times to meet the needs of the families. Some weekends and evening hours are necessary.TravelThe Nutrition Consultant will work both in office settings and conduct outreach in the community.Some travel will be required within all five boroughs (Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island) for outreach effortsThe role involves sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods, as well as carrying outreach materials.OtherThis job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work required of this position.
