Senior Computational Biologist - Spatial Methods
Senior Computational Biology - Spatial MethodsLatch is building AI agents for spatial biology. Unlike others, we partner with the instrument manufacturers (Vizgen, Takara, Brüker, 10x Genomics) to bundle agents with their tools. We are seeking a computational biologist with deep foundations in computer science, mathematics, and statistics, and 5+ years of applying their skills to biology. You will become a foundational member of our engineering team.ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you’ll combine your deep expertise in computational methods with practical biological intuition to develop novel strategies that push the frontier of AI in biology. You’ll collaborate closely with world-class spatial biology researchers to build AI agents that can handle all phases of data analysis (raw outputs → primary → secondary → tertiary → defensible biological conclusions), deploying them at scale for thousands of scientists. You will QC and review the work of other computational biologists, setting a bar for gold-standard quality outputs.Requirements (must-have)5+ years applying computational tools to the translation of real-world biological insights. Experience is in a high-stakes environment (e.g. cancer research, children's hospital, or therapeutic R&D)5+ years of CS, math, or statistics coursework. You studied algorithms, data structures, linear algebra, and probability before you studied biology, or acquired equivalent depth independently and can demonstrate itEnd-to-end analysis. Completely owned analysis of frontier datasets (e.g. VisiumHD, CosMx) from raw data to end insights, either for publications or industry experiments with meaningful consequences.Desired experience (nice-to-have)Experience with spatial transcriptomics analysis (Seeker or Trekker, MERFISH, DBiT-seq, Xenium, Visium, Stereo-seq, GeoMx, CosMx, or similar assays).Working understanding of kit-specific quality control thresholds and intuition for numerical examples of positive or negative results.Experience generating training data for AI agents or foundation models.Ideal candidateYou are an engineer and a biologist. You have a computational background and developed deep biological fluency through years of applied work. You're comfortable being wrong, updating beliefs with evidence, and writing down decisions so others can reproduce and critique your work. You communicate clearly, take ownership of end-to-end solutions, and set the bar for rigor on the team. You are inspired to build tools that transform the lives of scientists and humans for the better, while doing so safely, ethically, and with craftsmanship.Compensation & benefitsHighly competitive compensationCustom equity packageUnlimited PTOWaterfront office in China Basin (five days per week in person in San Francisco)Free lunch and dinner100% premium covered on Blue Shield's platinum health plan ($0 premium, $0 deductible)401(k) plan optionsCompany-sponsored professional developmentWork visa sponsorshipTeam-wide science reading groupsAbout the teamWe work on serious problems at the most important intersection in history: biology and AI.
