By producing high-quality, impactful content on social issues, we strive to drive social change and contribute to a more diverse and equitable media industry.Role Overview: The Design Project Manager Intern at Electric Potential plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of design projects and initiatives. This role will work closely with the Director of Design and the Executive Director to manage and coordinate the efforts of the Design Team, which includes Visual Content Designers, UX Researchers & Designers, Graphic Designers, and UX/UI Developers. The Design Project Manager Intern will be responsible for project planning, task allocation, timeline management, and proactive communication to ensure that all design work aligns with our mission and organizational objectives. Additionally, this role will provide mentorship, guidance, and support to the Design Team members, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.Duration: 6 months, with the option to commit longer based on performance. This role has a minimum commitment of 12-15 hours per week.Key Responsibilities:Manage and coordinate design projects and initiatives, ensuring timely completion and alignment with organizational goals.Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and task assignments for the Design Department.Proactively communicate project status, challenges, and updates to the Director of Design and Executive Director.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the Content Department and Digital Media Team, to ensure seamless integration of design work.Provide mentorship, guidance, and feedback to Design Team members to enhance their skills and performance.Conduct regular design reviews and workshops to maintain high standards of design excellence and consistency.Identify and address project blockers, risks, and dependencies to ensure smooth project execution.Assist in the development and implementation of design guidelines, standards, and best practices.Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in design project management and share insights with the team.Requirements:Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Design, Project Management, or a related field, and/or proven experience in managing design projects.Strong understanding of design principles, processes, and tools, with the ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance.Exceptional project management skills, with experience in planning, scheduling, and tracking project milestones and deliverables.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.Strong leadership and mentorship abilities, with a passion for fostering growth and development in team members.Proactive and detail-oriented, with the ability to anticipate and resolve project challenges.Proficiency with Figma, Notion, and Slack required.Familiarity with agile and lean project management methodologies is a plus.Strong commitment to social change and a passion for empowering youth through media literacy and storytelling.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an asynchronous remote environment.Ability to lead weekly Design Department meetings and facilitate design reviews and workshops.Ability to attend weekly project status meetings with the Director of Design and Executive Director.Ability to attend monthly 1:1 meeting with the Director of Design.Ability to attend weekly all leadership meetings.Ability to attend bi-weekly all-hands meetings.Compensation: This is an unpaid internship/volunteer role.Benefits: Flexible schedule, academic credit (if applicable), networking and relationship building, and resume-building experience.
