Tool & Die Maker

Constructs, alters, and repairs a wide variety of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges to very close tolerances. Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling, shaper, and grinders to machine parts. Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders. Draws preliminary sketches, prepares layout and detailed drawings. Develop strategies for fabricating designed dies using most suitable fixtures such as bushings, tool bits to incorporate into design. Meets all quality and efficiency expectations. Complies with safety and regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.Education minimum 4 years of high school/vocational school, completion of apprentice program a plus. Work experience minimum of 3 years. Ability to read/write English. Interpret engineering specifications, including operative sheets, drawings, and sketches. Mathematical aptitude: demonstrated ability for using shop mathematics including geometric and trigonometric formulas. Work with close dimensional tolerances and use all types of precision measuring instruments. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Able to work independently. Knowledge of machine shop practices and operations.
