Job Title: Financial Controller Department: Finance Reports To: CFO / Owner / VP Finance Direct Reports: 4 (Staff Accountant, AP/AR Specialist, Payroll/HR Coordinator, Cost Accountant)Position Summary The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls for a manufacturing organization. This role ensures the accuracy of financial statements, supports strategic decision-making, and drives continuous improvement in financial processes. The Controller will lead a small accounting team and partner closely with operations to manage cost accounting, inventory, and production-related financial analysis.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & ReportingPrepare and deliver accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsLead month-end and year-end close processesEnsure compliance with GAAP and company policiesDevelop and maintain financial reporting packages for leadershipCost Accounting & Manufacturing FinanceOversee standard costing, job costing, and variance analysisAnalyze material, labor, and overhead variances and provide actionable insightsPartner with operations to improve cost efficiency and margin performanceMonitor inventory valuation, cycle counts, and physical inventory processesBudgeting & ForecastingLead annual budgeting process and ongoing financial forecastingProvide financial analysis to support strategic planning and operational decisionsTrack performance against budget and identify risks/opportunitiesInternal Controls & ComplianceEstablish and maintain strong internal controls across all financial processesEnsure compliance with regulatory requirements, audits, and tax filingsCoordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partnersTeam LeadershipManage, mentor, and develop a team of four accounting professionalsDelegate responsibilities and ensure efficient workflow within the departmentFoster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvementCash Flow & TreasuryMonitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity needsOversee banking relationships, credit lines, and cash management strategiesProcess Improvement & SystemsIdentify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracySupport ERP system optimization and reporting enhancementsDrive automation where appropriate within accounting functionsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred)5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership experienceExperience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferredStrong knowledge of cost accounting and inventory managementProficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skillsExcellent analytical, organizational, and communication skillsKey CompetenciesLeadership and team developmentAttention to detail and accuracyStrategic thinking and business partnershipProblem-solving and process improvement mindsetAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentWork EnvironmentPrimarily office-based with regular interaction with production/operations teamsMay require occasional support during audits or inventory counts
