Surgical Technologist Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Tech Specialty: Surgery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: - 2 years of Surgical Tech experience - 1 year of CVOR scrubbing experience License: - CO License (DORA) Required Certifications: - NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist Required - BLS (AHA) Required Must-Have: - Demonstrates the ability to maintain a sterile field and ensure environmental safety. - Demonstrates the ability to recognize and address sharps and fire safety processes. - Demonstrates knowledge of surgical services. - Demonstrates knowledge of sterile processing. - Demonstrates the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. - Has experience in surgeries support within the surgical team. - Has experience in life support situations related to surgical care. - Has experience in sterile field management. - Has experience in sterilization processes and requirements. - Has experience in supervision within surgical services (within ORT scope). Description: Performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and reports to surgical services management. It is expected that the Surgery Tech will support system-wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined. Maintains accountability for ensuring the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria. Maintains the sterile field and ensures a safe environment. Recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes. Prepares the operating room and instruments for the surgical procedure. May assist with sterile processing. Assists the surgeon(s) during the procedure while staying within the scope of practice. Can identify emergency situations and exercises judgment when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies. Assists with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation for the next procedure upon completion of the procedure. Regular attendance to perform work on-site during scheduled business hours or shifts is required. Ability to work nights and/or weekends is required for identified positions. Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician (ORT) program is required. Graduation from a non-accredited surgical tech program within the past six months is also acceptable (not eligible for Tech in Surgery exam). Two years of scrub tech experience in hospital/military surgical services within the last three years is an alternative qualification.
