Geographic Information System Specialist
About the Role:A local government entity in Daytona is seeking a skilled Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist to join their IT department. This position will play a pivotal role in overseeing internal GIS responsibilities and collaborating with third-party GIS vendors. The initial six-month contract serves as an onboarding period with the goal of transitioning into a full-time role.Responsibilities:GIS Management:Oversee and manage the organization's GIS systems, databases, and data repositories.Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across GIS applications.Develop and implement GIS policies, standards, and procedures.GIS Analysis:Conduct GIS analyses to support decision-making and problem-solving in various areas, such as land use planning, infrastructure management, and emergency response.Utilize GIS tools and techniques to extract, analyze, and visualize spatial data.Vendor Management:Coordinate and manage relationships with third-party GIS vendors.Evaluate and select GIS software and services that align with organizational needs.Negotiate contracts and ensure compliance with vendor agreements.Data Integration:Integrate GIS data with other organizational databases and systems to facilitate data-driven decision-making.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field.Minimum of 3 years of experience working with GIS software and applications (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).Strong understanding of GIS concepts, data structures, and analysis techniques.Certification in GIS (e.g., GIS Professional (GISP)).
