TRAFFIC SIGNS AIDE (FULL TIME)

Click to view job descriptionTRAFFIC SIGNS AIDE - Traffic & Transportation - Traffic OperationsJOB SUMMARY:Under supervision, install, repair, and maintain traffic control devices, signs, pavement markings, screening walls, barricades, and the Speed Monitoring Radar system. Perform other related work as required.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Install, repair, and maintain traffic control devices, traffic signs (ground-mounted and overhead), pavement markings, buttons, markers, painted legends, pavement tape, traffic signals and signal equipment, construction signs and barricades. Recommend needed action to supervisor when appropriate. Assemble materials, equipment, and supplies to complete assigned work. Inspect and inventory signs, pavement markings, screening walls, and other traffic control devices. Read plans and apply designs to sign and pavement marking installations. Deploy city's Speed Monitoring Radar system as instructed according to normal procedures. Construct signs and barricades as needed. Fabricate signs. Inventory and inspect signs and pavement markings for needed work. Inspect and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment. Clearly record and document all work accomplished, in hand writing, and make verbal and written reports. Communicate courteously and effectively with other city employees, officials, and the public. Be placed in the On-Call rotation within 6 months. Work overtime and night/weekend standby as assigned.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:Perform other related traffic activities involving overhead signing or pavement markings, as required. Cross training opportunities in traffic signals and street lighting may be provided.REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:High school diploma or GED is required. Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License is preferred. Must have Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification, International Municipal Signal Association, or must obtain within one year of attaining the position.EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:One year of experience with signs and markings is preferred. Combination of education, experience, certification equivalent, and/or training will be considered. Must have knowledge of the Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic ControlDevices and ability to apply it to work situations. Must have abilities to: keep accurate records and make reports; operate paint machines, jackhammers, cutting torches, air compressors, sand blast machines, power and hand tools properly and safely.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds of pavement markings and signs and related materials. Push, pull, and/or drag up to 150 pounds of pavement marking and sign equipment. Remove debris and vehicle wreckage from roadway in response to police department requests. Climb, kneel, squat, stoop, bend, and/or work in confined spaces. Sit, stand, and/or walk for long periods of time. Work in extreme cold, heat, and/or temperature swings. Work in constant and extreme noise levels, using appropriate safety precautions. Work around, and may be exposed, to dust, chemical, mechanical and explosive hazards, using appropriate safety precautions. Maintain constant awareness in traffic. Efficiently work with minimum traffic disruptions and with maximum emphasis on worker safety.Number of available positions: 1High school diploma or GED is required.
