As a lead software developer in our Enterprise Development Capabilities & Services (EDCS) organization, you'll serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert, helping shape the strategy and evolution of Progressive's development ecosystem. With a primary focus on .NET and Visual Studio platform, you'll play a critical role in enabling developer productivity, accelerating modernization, and driving innovation across the enterprise. You'll partner closely with domain architects, software developers, security teams, and the software asset management teams, to evaluate tooling, influence technical direction, and ensure alignment with enterprise standards and business priorities. In this role, you'll provide strong technical leadership, shaping platform strategy, guiding modernization efforts, and improving automation across our development ecosystem while also remaining hands-on with critical initiatives that support tooling, CI/CD, and .NET modernization. This position does not include people management responsibilities; however, you'll have significant influence as a technical leader, mentoring peers, shaping best practices, and enabling teams to adopt modern, cloud-based development approaches through your automation-first mindset and enterprise perspective driving the empowerment of developers, delivery efficiency, and organization-wide productivity and modernization.

Must-have qualifications
Minimum of 9 years related work experience programming and supporting software applications.
{OR} The completion of a technical training program and 6 years related work experience programming and supporting software applications.
{OR} Bachelor's Degree or higher in an Information Technology related field of study and 6 years related work experience programming and supporting software applications.
Preferred skills
Experience driving enterprise-level developer tooling strategy, modernization initiatives, and advocacy across large software development communities
Expertise with Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and .NET (Framework and .NET Core/8+), including upgrade planning, lifecycle management, and toolchain optimization
Familiarity with developer ecosystem tooling such as version control (Git), work management platforms (AzDO), productivity tooling, package management (NuGet), CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based development (AWS/Azure)
Strong experience with automation-first approaches using scripting and web-based technologies (PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript)
Exceptional problem-solving, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate and present effectively to senior leadership
Compensation
$132,000 - $154,000/year based on experience
Gainshare annual cash incentive payment up to 40% of your eligible earnings based on company performance
