Full Stack Engineer - Backend technologies - Java working with database - MongoDb and PostgreSQL80% Backend, 20% frontendTerms of Employment• Contract Duration: 3 Months ( with potential for long-term extension)• Location: 100% Remote (Strong preference for candidates in the Washington, DC / DMV area)OverviewWork with an enterprise client as part of a high-priority technology modernization initiative. This project focuses on replacing legacy on-premise mainframe data connections within an application UI stack with modern cloud database technologies. As a backend-focused Full Stack Engineer, you will join and augment an established team actively working to refactor data access workflows, transition workloads to MongoDB and PostgreSQL, and prepare the upgraded application for production deployment.Key Responsibilities• Support and augment an existing engineering team in migrating application data connections off on-premise mainframes onto cloud database architectures.• Design, build, and optimize backend services using Java to interact with cloud MongoDB and PostgreSQL databases.• Update data retrieval and querying logic within the application to ensure seamless integration with the UI layer.• Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure smooth communication between Java backend microservices/APIs and Angular UI interfaces.• Assist in testing, refactoring, and productionalizing application workflows for final shipping.Required Qualifications• Strong software engineering background with a primary focus on backend development using Java.• Hands-on experience working with relational and non-relational database technologies, specifically PostgreSQL and MongoDB.• Experience building and maintaining data access layers, database connections, and APIs.• Working knowledge and general familiarity with front-end web technologies (Angular, HTML, CSS).• Proven ability to write clean, maintainable code within a collaborative engineering team.Preferred Qualifications• Experience with modern Angular versions (Angular 18 or recent versions from the last 1–2 years).• Direct experience in application modernization projects involving data source migrations from on-premise or legacy environments to cloud environments.• Familiarity with cloud database platforms and production deployment practices.
