USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub appThe Research Assistant is an adjunct staff position within the Earth Systems Research Center, supporting grant-funded research focused on forest ecology and management. This position plays an essential role in the execution of field-based and lab-based research activities, contributing to the collection, documentation, and management of biological and environmental data in support of ongoing funded projects. Under the direction of the Research Scientist, the Research Assistant independently carries out field data collection and lab sample processing protocols, maintains accurate records, and ensures the integrity of research data in accordance with established procedures. This position requires applied knowledge of plant biology and field research methods, as well as the ability to work in variable outdoor conditions.Duties/ResponsibilitiesField Data Collection (65%)Collect leaf, soil, and environmental samples from field plots following established research protocolsMeasure tree growth, soil respiration, and other plot characteristicsSample Processing and Data Management (30%)Process, label, and store collected samples according to protocolEnter field data into spreadsheets or research databases in a timely and accurate mannerAssist with organization and basic quality checks of research dataEquipment maintenance (5%)Maintain, clean, calibrate field equipment and toolsDownload dataloggers, and manage batteryMinimum Acceptable Education & ExperienceBachelor's DegreeRequired Licenses & CertificationsValid Driver’s LicenseRequired Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of northeastern forests, ecological field experience, comfortable working outside in all conditionsApplicant InstructionsApplicants should be prepared to upload the following documents when applying online within the My Experience: Resume/CV section of the application: (Maximum of 5 Documents)Resume/CVCompensation Pay Range$18.00 /hourPlease be advised that this position is supported by external sponsor funding.
