Tools Design Engineer

Job Title: Tool EngineerLocation: El Segundo, CA 90245 (100% Onsite)Duration: 3+ Month Contract with possibility of extensionClearance: Ability to obtain and maintain an Active DoD Secret Security ClearanceJob Description:The client is seeking a Tooling Engineer with experience in designing manufacturing tooling, fixtures, jigs, dies, and support equipment for aerospace production. The ideal candidate will have strong CAD design expertise (Siemens NX/CATIA), knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes, GD&T proficiency, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams. Candidates must be able to manage tooling projects from concept through fabrication while ensuring quality, cost, schedule, and safety compliance.Key Responsibilities:Design tooling, fixtures, jigs, dies, gauges, and support equipment for manufacturing and composite production.Develop tooling concepts, engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plans.Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, function, and compliance with engineering standards.Coordinate with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and engineering teams throughout tooling development.Manage tooling projects including procurement, fabrication, schedules, and costs.Perform design reviews and ensure drawings meet drafting standards, GD&T, and dimensional accuracy.Support tooling fabrication, vendor inspections, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.Identify and mitigate tooling safety risks while ensuring compliance with company and government standards.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or another STEM discipline.Experience with CAD design and drafting tools, preferably Siemens NX and CATIA.Knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication, machining, and tooling processes.Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018).Experience reviewing engineering drawings for accuracy, materials, dimensions, and manufacturing feasibility.Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain an Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.Preferred Qualifications:Aerospace manufacturing experience.Experience designing and fabricating aerospace tooling, fixtures, and composite manufacturing tooling.Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.Experience preparing tooling Statements of Work (SOW) and design estimates.Vendor management and tooling qualification experience.FEMAP/NASTRAN stress analysis experience.Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
