RELEASE OF INFORMATION SPECIALIST-HIM

SUMMARYThe ROI Specialist is to ensure that requests for the release of personal health information/personally identifiable information (as defined by HIPAA and HITECH) received by the Health Information Department are appropriately processed in accordance to the type of necessity. All requests are to be prioritized and thoroughly reviewed to ensure:Clinical coordination of careLegal Request Processing (Criminal and Civil Law)Contract Request Processing (RACs, DPW and Workman's Comp.)Centers for Medicare/Medicaid requirement compliance.MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREDHigh school graduate and equivalent secondary education skills.Demonstrable knowledge or experience with medical record departmental practices, computer use, HIM functions and filing systems.Demonstrated knowledge of chart components and uses. Medical Terminology needed.Demonstrated knowledge of chart forms, uses and accurate verification of patient identification.Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements.Graduate of Medical Secretary, Medical Office Assistant preferred.Experience in a Medical Office or Medical Record Department preferred.Previous customer service experience preferred.Equal Opportunity Employer
