Proud member of the Nord Anglia Education global network of schools.Position Summary / Job GoalsThe Department Head of College Counseling leads and manages the school’s college counseling program, ensuring high-quality, student-centered guidance for students and families throughout the university application process.This role provides strategic oversight of advising systems, supports counselors in case management and professional development, and collaborates with school leadership to ensure students are well prepared for post-secondary pathways.Qualifications / TrainingTraining in effective college counseling instructional methodsExperience teaching a high school college counseling curriculumExperience / KnowledgeMinimum of three years of college counseling experience preferredStrong understanding of university application processes and post-secondary pathwaysProficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPointExperience analyzing data related to student outcomes, applications, and admissions trendsAbility to work effectively in a diverse, international school environmentAttributesStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholdersExcellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple prioritiesCollaborative and team-oriented mindsetHigh level of professionalism, integrity, and accountabilityResilient, adaptable, and calm under pressureProactive and solutions-oriented, with a continuous improvement mindsetStrong listening skills and ability to respond thoughtfully to student and parent needsReports To / Evaluated ByHigh School DirectorMajor Responsibilities And DutiesCollege Counseling Program LeadershipLead and manage the College Counseling department, ensuring consistency, clarity, and quality across all grade levelsDesign and oversee a structured college counseling program with defined milestones, timelines, and expectationsEnsure students and families have access to accurate resources, guidance, and feedback throughout the application processMaintain ethical, student-centered advising practices aligned with best practicesStudent and Family SupportOversee student advising, including individual counseling, application planning, and decision-makingSupport counselors with caseload management and complex casesEnsure timely, professional communication with parents and intervene when necessaryUse feedback from students and families to enhance the counseling experienceTeam Leadership and Professional CultureBuild and maintain a collaborative, high-performing counseling teamOnboard, mentor, and support new counselorsFacilitate regular team meetings for alignment and continuous improvementProvide ongoing feedback to maintain high standards of advising and professionalismData, Strategy and OutcomesCollect and analyze data related to applications, acceptances, matriculation, and student outcomesUse insights to refine strategies and improve program effectivenessCoordinate submission of IB results and required documentation to universitiesMonitor admissions trends to inform stakeholdersEvents and Community EngagementPlan and oversee college-related events (e.g., fairs, workshops, parent sessions)Coordinate with internal and external partners to expand student exposure to post-secondary optionsRepresent the department at key school eventsCollaboration and School LeadershipPartner with leadership and academic teams to align counseling timelines with curriculumSupport college-readiness initiatives across grade levelsServe as the primary liaison between College Counseling and school leadershipBudget and Resource ManagementManage the department budgetOversee selection and maintenance of counseling platforms, tools, and resourcesVillage Believes That Effective Employees AreAccountable - Establishes a high performing culture and accepts accountability for organizational performance.
