Saunders St. Laredo, TXJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: FY25-00186Department: Road & BridgeOpening Date: 03/17/2026Closing Date: 4/12/2026 11:59 PM CentralJob SummaryThis position is responsible for operating equipment in the construction, repair, and maintenance of county roads and bridges.Major DutiesOperates street sweepers for street cleaning.Operates a backhoe and front-end loader.Operates lawn mowers, tractors, and weed eaters.Operates a pavement roller.Assists in the maintenance of bridges.Removes debris from roads and rights-of-way.Trims shrubs and tree branches; operates a chainsaw.Responds to after-hours emergencies.Assists in the maintenance of tools and equipment and reports malfunctions to the supervisor.Performs any other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.Knowledge of the materials, equipment, procedures, and practices employed in highway, road, bridge, and infrastructure construction, repair, and maintenance.Knowledge of department and county policies and procedures.Skill in the operation of a variety of street maintenance equipment, including street sweepers, backhoes, front-end loaders, lawn mowers, tractors, and other equipment with a variety of attachments.Skill in the operation of various hand tools.Skill in the performance of manual labor.Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.Minimum QualificationsMust have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.Must have one ( 1 ) year of experience.Supplemental InformationComplexity/Scope of WorkThe work consists of related equipment operation duties. Inclement weather conditions and heavy traffic around work sites contribute to the complexity of the position.The purpose of this position is to operate equipment in support of road construction, repair, and maintenance activities. Successful performance helps ensure well-maintained roads and bridges.Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentOccasionallyAscending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and poles.Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.ConstantlyRemaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.Communicating with others to exchange information.Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.Operating machinery and/or power tools.Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.Working in low temperatures.Working in high temperatures.Working in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.Working in noisy environments.Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.Other Requirements/InformationA Texas DOT Physical Exam is required.Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license for the type of vehicles or equipment operated.The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position.
