Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager / Maintenance Engineer to lead maintenance operations in a plastics manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of extrusion and bag making equipment while driving preventive maintenance, continuous improvement, and team development.
The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on technical expertise with leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills to minimize downtime and support production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
Lead preventive and corrective maintenance activities for plastic extrusion and bag making equipment
Maintain and troubleshoot critical components including air rings, dies and die heaters, nip rollers, winders, bag machines, and sealers
Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and related system issues to minimize downtime
Perform and oversee mechanical repairs involving bearings, belts, chains, motors, gearboxes, and shafts
Support machine changeovers, setups, and process adjustments
Leadership & Operations
Supervise, train, and mentor maintenance technicians
Prioritize and assign maintenance tasks to meet production and safety goals
Communicate equipment conditions, maintenance needs, and improvement opportunities to production leadership
Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and plant safety standards.
Preventive Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance programs
Analyze equipment failures and lead root cause corrective actions
Support reliability initiatives, equipment upgrades, and continuous improvement projects
Documentation & Compliance
Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance work and equipment history
Maintain mechanical drawings, schematics, and maintenance records
Support audits and compliance with company and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in a plastics manufacturing environment
Hands-on experience with extrusion lines and/or bag making equipment
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
Working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
Electrical troubleshooting experience (motors, sensors, limit switches, VFDs)
Experience with blown film extrusion
Welding or fabrication skills
Experience managing preventive maintenance programs
Supervisory or leadership experience
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
Comfortable working around machinery, heat, and moving equipment
Pay: $73,295.67 - $89,270.05 per year
