This role provides consistent instructional support by covering classrooms as needed, building relationships with students and staff, and ensuring continuity of learning throughout the school year. When not assigned to a classroom, the Building Substitute assists with academic support, supervision, and other school needs.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher, following lesson plans and school expectationsAdapt to various grade levels and subject areas throughout the buildingMaintain a positive, structured, and safe learning environmentSupport students with instruction, activities, and classroom routinesTake attendance, manage classroom behavior, and complete required documentationCommunicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and support staffAssist with supervision duties such as hallways, lunch, recess, or arrival/dismissal when neededProvide academic or clerical support during planning periods or when no classroom coverage is requiredBuild rapport with students and contribute to a consistent, supportive school climateRequired QualificationsMust be 18 years of age or olderHigh school diploma or equivalentValid substitute teaching license or higher teaching license (as required by state regulations)Clean criminal background checksStrong communication and classroom-management skillsFlexibility and willingness to work across multiple grade levels and subjectsProfessionalism, reliability, and a student-centered mindsetAbility to follow lesson plans and collaborate with school staffAdherence to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio EducatorsPreferred QualificationsPrior teaching or substitute teaching experienceExperience working with diverse learnersFamiliarity with school routines, instructional strategies, and behavior supportsWhat We OfferConsistent daily schedule within one school buildingOpportunities to build teaching experience and develop instructional skillsPotential pathways to full-time teaching rolesEnrollment in State Teachers Retirement System (STRS)
