Overview As Lead Software Engineer in the Commercial & Investment Banking - Payments team, you guide a cross-functional, agile group to deliver secure, scalable, AI-enabled technology. You act as a core technical contributor across multiple domains to support strategic business objectives. You shape developer experiences and platform capabilities, balancing product delivery with rigorous security and reliability. Compensation / Benefitscomprehensive health care coverageon-site health and wellness centersretirement savings planbackup childcaretuition reimbursementmental health support ResponsibilitiesLead the design and delivery of an AI-first Developer Portal experience, including architecture for agent-ready workflows and safe execution.Build and operate AI-enabled support experiences with contextual understanding of client/workspace state and ongoing integrations.Design secure external API platform capabilities with contract-first OpenAPI design, versioning, backward compatibility, and developer usability.Promote enterprise-approved AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes with standardized validation.Utilize SDLC tools and AI-assisted development capabilities to enhance automation value.Own authentication and credential workflows for external integrations, covering certificate handling and secure onboarding.Set engineering standards for AI + automation in production, including telemetry, audit logging, release gating, and incident response.Remain hands-on (~50%) through critical-path coding, architecture reviews, and performance/resiliency improvements.Drive cross-functional, federated delivery with API owners, security, and shared services to unify client experience.Coach engineers to improve quality, delivery discipline, and collaboration; grow technical leadership. Key requirementsFormal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 8+ years of applied experience; demonstrated coaching/mentoring experience.Hands-on experience building and operating distributed systems at scale; leadership of software engineering teams.Experience leading use of approved AI-assisted development tools and setting validation standards for AI outputs.Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, data sensitivity, secure handling, resiliency, and security.Hands-on backend development experience; proficiency in Java; other modern backend stacks acceptable.Proven expertise building external-facing APIs and integration platforms with contract-first design and lifecycle management.Strong security fundamentals for external integrations: OAuth2/OIDC concepts, mTLS, PKI/certificates, secrets management, secure SDLC, and threat modeling.Experience building AI-enabled product capabilities in production with guarded retrieval, structured tool/action execution, monitoring, and auditability.Proficient in automation and continuous delivery; strong understanding of agile and modern SDLC practices.Knowledge of application resiliency, observability, performance engineering, and incident management.coaching and mentoringcross-functional collaborationcommunicationJavadistributed systemsexternal APIs / API design
