Job Description
At LiquidStack, we're redefining what's possible in the data center world. As a global leader in advanced liquid cooling solutions, we're powering the future of AI, edge computing, and high-performance systems. Our team is growing, and we're looking for skilled professionals who want to be part of something innovative and impactful.LiquidStack is scaling its R&D organization to advance liquid cooling and high-performance thermal solutions for data center and computing environments. We are seeking a mid-level Thermal Engineer to take hands-on ownership of the design, analysis, testing, and validation of thermal systems across both current products and next-generation platforms. In this role, you will work end-to-end on thermal challenges — from thermal analysis and modeling to prototyping, lab testing, and data correlation — partnering closely with mechanical, electrical, firmware, manufacturing, and service teams. Your work will directly influence product performance, reliability, and how solutions are deployed in real customer environments. This position is ideal for an engineer with 3–5 years of experience who is comfortable working independently, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is ready to grow into broader system-level responsibility as LiquidStack scales. As the organization evolves, this role offers increasing scope, visibility, and the opportunity to help shape how thermal engineering is executed across the company.Engineers who succeed at LiquidStack are Flexible and Agile in adapting to change, Driven to own outcomes, Collaborative across disciplines, and Customer-Centric and Attentive in using data, testing, and clear communication to solve complex thermal problems.(LiquidStack does not provide visa sponsorship now or in the future.)ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThermal Design & AnalysisDesign and develop thermal solutions for servers, electronics, and data center cooling systems, with a strong emphasis on liquid cooling technologiesDefine thermal architectures that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and costPerform airflow, heat transfer, pressure drop, and temperature calculations to support design decisionsModeling & SimulationDevelop and execute thermal test plans using lab equipment, sensors, and data acquisition systemsAnalyze test data to validate performance against requirements and customer use casesSupport design iterations based on test findings and operational feedbackPrototyping & TestingSupport the setup and execution of thermal tests using lab equipment, sensors, and data acquisition systemsAssist with building prototypes and executing test plans to validate thermal designsCollect, organize, and analyze test data to evaluate performance against requirementsCollaboration & DocumentationWork closely with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and operations teams to integrate thermal solutions into products.Support integration of thermal solutions into production hardware and field deploymentsInterface with vendors and suppliers for component selection and validationDocumentation & CommunicationProduce clear technical documentation, test reports, and design summariesPresent findings and recommendations in design reviews and cross-functional forumsRequired Skills & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related discipline.3-5 years of experience in thermal engineering, HVAC, electronics cooling, or related engineering roles (including internships or co-op experience)Foundational knowledge of:Heat transfer and thermodynamicsFluid mechanics and airflow principlesThermal cycles (e.g., sensible cooling, evaporative effectsProficiency with CFD or thermal analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Icepak, Fluent, FloTHERM, or similar)Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCADHands-on experience with lab testing, sensors, or data acquisition systemsStrong problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn through hands-on experimentationClear written and verbal communication skills.Preferred SkillsExposure to data center cooling, electronics thermal management, or liquid cooling technologiesFamiliarity with ASHRAE guidelines related to data centers or thermal systemsPython, MATLAB, or similar tools for data analysisInternship, co-op, or early-career experience in an R&D or product development environmentWhy Join Us?Competitive pay with opportunities for overtimeConsistent day-shift schedulePaid time off, holidays, and great benefitsBe part of an industry-disrupting company with room to growWork on innovative technologies in a collaborative, supportive environment
