Switchboard Engineer II

DSJ Global is partnered with a leading electrical equipment manufacturer who is seeking an accomplished Switchboard Engineer II to join their engineering team in North Charleston, SC. This organization designs and manufactures critical power distribution and protection solutions supporting industries such as telecommunications, energy, transportation, and defense.As a Switchboard Engineer II, you will design and develop low-voltage switchboards and panelboards, owning engineering activities from concept through production. You will work on complex 3D assemblies, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams while ensuring compliance with key industry standards such as NEC and UL. This role offers a strong blend of technical design ownership and leadership, including mentoring junior engineers and collaborating cross-functionally with manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign low-voltage switchboards and panelboards, including full 3D assemblies and large BOMsCreate 3D sheet metal components and flat patterns using CAD toolsDevelop wiring diagrams and electrical schematics using PLCs, relays, breakers, and control componentsProduce 2D drawings including front views, layout drawings, and single-line diagramsEnsure designs meet UL standards and NEC requirementsSupport the full product design lifecycle, from concept to releaseCollaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to ensure design feasibility and qualityCommunicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external vendorsMentor and support junior engineering team membersRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related field)4-8 years of experience in switchboard, panelboard, or power distribution designExperience working with UL standards (UL891, UL67, UL508A, or similar)Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD tools (Autodesk preferred)Strong understanding of NEC (National Electric Code)Experience creating electrical schematics and wiring diagramsKnowledge of conductors, OCPDs, and electrical componentsStrong communication skills and ability to work in a team environmentDesired SkillsExperience in switchgear or large-scale power distribution systemsFamiliarity with control circuits, PLCs, and system logicExperience in a manufacturing or OEM environmentPrior experience mentoring or leading engineers
