Job Description Job Summary: The Sterile Processing Tech is responsible for inspecting, decontaminating, sterilizing, and assembling surgical and patient care instruments in accordance with hospital policies and manufacturer guidelines. The technician ensures the safety and functionality of surgical tools and maintains proper documentation of sterilization processes. Responsibilities: Operate sterilization equipment including Sterrad, autoclaves, washer/disinfectors, and ultrasonic cleaners following manufacturer specifications.Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, monitoring parameters such as pressure, temperature, and cycle time.Perform biological and chemical monitoring tests on sterilizers and high-level disinfectors, interpreting results and maintaining documentation.Inspect sterilized packages for damage or wet packs, and take corrective action to ensure sterility before distribution.Assemble instrument trays, perform quality checks, and verify proper sterilization indicators are used.Reprocess instruments and equipment per established guidelines, including decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization procedures. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; extended coursework in sterilization preferred.Certification as CRCST through IAHCSMM or CSPDT through CBSPD required.Minimum of six months of relevant experience preferred.Knowledge of sterilization equipment, surgical instrumentation, and infection control standards.Ability to accurately interpret sterilization monitoring results and maintain detailed records.
