Fleet Operations: Application Engineer

Overview In this role you will be the technical quarterback for fleet health and operational execution of the Atlas humanoid fleet. You will quickly triage issues across software, controls, hardware, and networking, coordinating experts to restore fleet availability. You’ll balance uptime with experiment schedules and software releases, and communicate fleet status to leaders. This position sits at the crossroads of Prototype Operations, Controls, Software, Hardware, and Research, offering meaningful impact on reliability and deployment scale. Compensation / Benefitsmedical, dental vision401(k)paid time offannual bonus structure ResponsibilitiesServe as the first technical point of contact for robot issues across the fleetContinuously monitor fleet health, availability, telemetry, and mission readinessOwn operational awareness across all active robots while communicating fleet status and needs to engineering and leadershipBalance robot availability, experiment schedules, repairs, and software releases to maximize fleet utilizationPerform rapid system-level troubleshooting across controls, software, hardware, networking, sensors, power systems, and infrastructureAnalyze logs, telemetry, system behavior, and robot performance to isolate failuresDetermine root-cause hypotheses and drive the appropriate escalation pathDistinguish between software defects, controls issues, hardware failures, configuration errors, and operational problemsCreate high-quality engineering tickets containing sufficient technical detail for efficient resolutionLead technical incident response meetings during fleet-impacting eventsCoordinate Software, Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Repair teams during active troubleshootingDrive clear ownership, priorities, action items, and follow-upCommunicate technical status to engineers, management, and stakeholders throughout an incidentIdentify recurring failure modes across the fleetPartner with engineering teams to improve diagnostics, health monitoring, automation, and toolingRecommend process improvements that reduce downtime and improve robot reliabilityDevelop troubleshooting playbooks and operational procedures for repeatable issuesAct as the technical bridge between Fleet Operations and EngineeringSupport software deployments, hardware upgrades, and configuration managementCoordinate repairs and validate robot readiness before returning systems to serviceEnsure lessons learned from fleet operations directly influence future robot designs Key requirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline5+ years supporting complex electromechanical products or technical operationsExperience managing or supporting an operational fleet of robots, autonomous vehicles, industrial equipment, aircraft, ships, manufacturing systems, or similarly complex assetsExperience troubleshooting systems that integrate software, controls, networking, sensors, and hardwareExperience leading technical incident response or operational reviewsStrong understanding of Linux, networking fundamentals, and system diagnosticsExperience using issue tracking and operational management tools such as Jira, ServiceNow, or similar platformsSystems thinkingAbility to operate under pressureStrong communication with engineers, technicians, and leadershipTroubleshooting across software, controls, hardware, networking, sensors, and power systemsRoot-cause analysis and incident escalationTelemetry and log analysis
