The Controller leads the accounting, A/P and AR functions for our mid-to-large-scale apparel company, serving as a strategic business partner to senior leadership. The role is hands-on, operational, and performance-driven, with a focus on strengthening financial reporting, accounts receivable and payable process, and inventory controls while improving cross-functional process efficiency. This role establishes financial controls, ensures accurate and timely reporting, and provides the CFO with reliable financial data.We're seeking a hands-on accounting leader with strong communication and influence skills to work with senior leadership, non-financial stakeholders and external partners. This person has prior Controller experience in apparel/fashion is preferred; broader consumer products experience with wholesale retail exposure (e.g., Walmart, Target, Macy’s, Kohl’s, Sam’s Club) is also ideal.Ability to diagnose issues quickly, implement pragmatic process improvements, and remain detail-oriented in a deadline-driven environment.Responsibilities:Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process across multiple divisions; ensure consolidated financials and account analysis are accurate and delivered on schedule.Oversee A/R, A/P, and general accounting teams — set priorities, monitor workloads, and ensure adequate coverage and cross-training.Maintain and enforce internal controls over financial transactions, approvals, and segregation of duties.Manage cash flow and banking transactions (deposits, transfers, funding)Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and intercompany eliminations.Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors; coordinate audit schedules, prepare workpapers, and resolve audit findings.Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting workflows, reduce close timelines, and improve data accuracy.Collaborate with FP&A to ensure that actual results align with forecasts and variances are explained.Coordinate with peer Controllers on shared processes and consistency across the AMG Group.Core competencies and Qualifications:8 -10 years accounting experience including A/R , apparel and wholesale preferred, 3-5 years management experienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldProven track record for managing and developing a small teamSAP, Excel, BI tool, Claude AI, ConcurFlexibility to be on-site at least 3 days a weekAnnual salary range starting at $180,000+The disclosed salary range is commensurate with experience and does not reflect the total compensation package.
