Performs and handles problems regarding specimen registration, collection, receiving, processing, and reporting. Assists with the selection of staff, provides training and assesses competency for phlebotomy and processing staff and assure staff are following established policies and procedures. Assists in the development of policies and procedures in area of responsibility.Coordinates and delegates work assignments, handles problems regarding lab orders, specimen collection, receiving, processing, reporting, and reference lab functions.Evaluates staffing and makes necessary adjustments on a daily basis assuring all critical areas of phlebotomy and processing are covered and work is completed accurately and in a timely manner.Oversees training of new staff and completion of required competency assessments.Assists with development and annual review of policies, procedures, and processes for the assigned areas.Participates in the daily work as necessary to assure competency is maintained and as workload demands.Assures all regulatory requirements for record keeping and documentation are met.Assumes responsibilities of phlebotomy supervisor in his/her absence.Performs other duties as assigned within scope of practice.EducationWhat we need from youHigh School Diploma or GED, requiredTwo year Associate Degree, preferredExperienceMinimum one year pertinent laboratory experience, requiredLicense/ CertificationPreferred - Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) from training in a formal phlebotomy program which includes a minimum of sixty hours of didactic training and sixty hours of clinical experienceSkillsAccountabilityAccuracyCoachingCommunicationComputer SkillsCritical ThinkingCustomer ServiceInteracting with PeopleMulti-TaskingPhysical RequirementsMedium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objectsOccasional crouching, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, walking, fit testingFrequent typing/clerical/dexterity, grasping, hearing, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception)HazardsFrequent bodily fluids/bloodborne exposureOccasional chemical, radiation/radiant energyWorking ConditionsOccasional noiseTotal RewardsBenefitsBassett Healthcare Network’s commitment to our employees includes benefit programs carefully designed with the needs and values of all our employees in mind.
