We are looking for candidates who welcome a challenge, are eager to collaborate and contribute to the success of students, are ready to engage in two-way partnership with families, and who will contribute their diverse talents to the organization as a whole.POSITION: Long Term Substitute HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORQUALIFICATIONS:Master's Degree and DESE certification as a High School (Guidance) CounselorExperience counseling students at the high school levelExperience in and knowledge of social/emotional counseling and post-secondary planningKnowledge of Naviance/PowerSchool is helpfulResponsibilities:Provides Guidance Services for assigned students in grades 9-12Implement developmental guidance curriculum via group and individual meetings with studentsAssist students in navigating the Naviance programAssist students with academic planningOversee course selection/change processProvide academic planning, social/emotional support, and transition planningAdvise and instruct students regarding all aspects of the college search/admissions process, and post-graduate planningRegister new students, evaluate transcripts, schedule courses and orient students to Arlington High SchoolMake referrals for additional social work/academic support within the school and communityCollaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, social workers, nurses, and other school personnel regarding how to support students and maximize potentialAttend school meetings to support student progress including SST, IEP meetings, planning/progress meetings with teachers and familiesMay need to write college letters of recommendationWrite 504 plansAssist teachers in the implementation of DCAP accommodationsMeet with college representatives at AHSUpdate and maintain EPP'sAssist students with the scholarship and financial aid processPerform other duties as may be required by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designees, and policies of the Arlington School Committee
