Within the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), you're building more than a career - you're building ownership.Position Overview:The Director of Business Development reports to the Regional Vice President and serves as a key external-facing leader responsible for driving regional growth across Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. This individual is accountable for developing and executing strategic market expansion plans, cultivating long-term client relationships, identifying emerging opportunities, and advancing Higley Construction's presence in both existing and untapped markets.The Director will partner closely with the Regional Vice President, Project Executives, and the Marketing team to shape pursuit strategies, support proposal development, and ensure the delivery of a best-in-class client experience from initial contact through project completion. This individual represents Higley Construction's core values, character, mission, and brand in all client, community, and industry interactions.Responsibilities:Lead research and data analysis initiatives on market share, competitive position, and ROI to advise leadership on the highest-value opportunities.Develop regional growth strategies in partnership with the Regional Vice President to achieve annual revenue goals.Expand existing market segments while identifying, researching, and developing new or untapped markets in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.Build and manage target client lists, prospect pipelines, and engagement strategies in alignment with regional growth goals.Develop, strengthen, and maintain relationships with new and existing clients, design and engineering firms, developers, brokers, trade partners, and key community stakeholders across public, private, commercial, institutional, healthcare, and nonprofit sectors.Ensure a positive and consistent client experience through continued engagement from initial contact through project completion.Represent Higley Construction at industry, community, networking, client, and awards events; maintain visibility as a local leader and advocate of the brand.Lead the development of project opportunities from prospect, pursuit, proposal, interview, and award.Co-champion pursuit strategies, proposal development, and interview preparation with the Regional Vice President or Project Executive and the Marketing team.Coach internal teams and departmental leaders in interview preparation, strategic messaging, and excellence in client communication.Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop BD-aligned content, presentations, and pursuit materials.Promote Higley Construction's mission, vision, brand, culture, values, and character to both internal and external stakeholders.Actively participate in professional associations, nonprofit organizations, and business groups to elevate regional visibility and expand networking reach.Utilize CRM software (Unanet) to manage the sales funnel, track opportunities, and maintain an up-to-date regional client database.Develop and manage annual BD budgets, including client entertainment, branding, sponsorships, donations, subscriptions, and related expenses.Assist the Regional Vice President with initiatives to strengthen employee engagement within the region.Travel primarily within Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.Attend evening and weekend networking, association, and community events as required.Performs other related duties as assigned.Skills and Abilities:Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.High business intelligence with a strong understanding of the A/E/C industry and construction market drivers.Proven ability in networking, strategic relationship building, and community engagement.Advanced abilities in research, data analysis, strategic planning, and sales planning.Strong presentation, facilitation, and coaching skills.Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with senior leadership.High level of professionalism, discretion, and judgment in client-facing environments.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Construction Management, Engineering, Organizational Leadership, or a related field preferred.10+ years of experience in business development, client relations, or strategic growth roles, preferably within the construction or A/E/C industry.Demonstrated success in generating new business, growing client accounts, and developing long-term strategic relationships.CRM experience required (Unanet preferred).Participation in community, civic, professional, or industry organizations strongly encouraged.Why Higley Construction?Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) Employee-Owned25 days of Paid Time Off9 Paid HolidaysHealth, Dental, & Vision InsuranceHealth/Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts401k Contributions/MatchLife Insurance/AD&DEmployee Assistance ProgramVolunteer Time Off & Gift Match ProgramPaid Birthday LeavePaid Family LeavePaid Military LeaveShort & Long Term DisabilityYears of Service Awards$1,500 Referral BonusCapability for up to 16 hours / week of remote work.Casual Friday PolicyCell Phone ReimbursementApparel AllowanceEnterprise/National Rental BenefitsDrug and Alcohol Screening RequirementAs part of your employment with Higley Construction, an initial pre-employment drug and alcohol test is required.
