Position Title: Licensed Practical NursePayroll/Personnel Type: 11 MonthJob #: 8751Reports to: Coordinator of NursingShift Length: 8 Hours a DayUnion Eligibility: Not EligibleContract Eligibility: Not Eligible for ContractStarting Salary: $55,245.79Position Summary:The Licensed Practical Nurse [LPN] supports the health and safety of students by delivering nursing careand health-related services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or appropriate medicalauthority. The LPN assists in promoting a healthy school environment, managing student healthconditions, responding to illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies.Essential Functions:* Provide direct nursing care to students, including but not limited to: medication administration,treatments, basic first aid, adherence to individualized health plans/504/IEP, and medicalstanding orders* Monitor and manage students with chronic health conditions (asthma, diabetes, etc.), includesdaily support* Assist in implementing IHP/504/IEPs as needed* Maintain accurate, confidential student records in compliance with HIPPA and FERPA laws andschool policies* Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health issues, medication needs andfollow up* Support immunization compliance, health screenings, communicable disease monitoring asneededProvides health education and wellness supportRespond to medical emergencies and initiate school protocol until emergency protocol arrivesMaintain a clean and organized health office complete with proper medication storage andmedical suppliesKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Previous school nurse experience preferred, but not requiredAbility to provide professional registered nursing care in a school settingAbility to utilize a variety of reference, descriptive and advisory data and information such aspatient records, lab reports, immunization records, service directories, nurse's handbooks,procedure manuals, and non-routine correspondence* Ability to perform mid-level data analysis including the ability to assess, education, interpret,and evaluate health status of students* Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developingapproaches and techniques to problem resolution* Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and apply creativity in situations that requireevaluating information based on sensory, subjective, or interpretive criteria rather than strictlymeasurable or verifiable standards* Ability to lift, carry, push and pull objects and materials of moderate weight, 12 to 20 pounds,such as transporting medical supplies, equipment, educational materials, and movement,transferring, or repositioning of students* Tasks could involve the ability to exert moderate, but not constant, physical effort, typicallyinvolving some combination of trotting, running, stooping, climbing stairs, kneeling andcrouching in order to respond to health emergencies for the performance of healthassessments* Ability to operate, maneuver, or adjust equipment, machinery or tools such as stethoscopes,nebulizers, thermometers, peak flow meters, suction machines, audiometers, vision charts,computers, printers, copiers, and fax machines* Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as disease, pathogenicsubstances, toxic/poisonous agents, disease, or violence* Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary teamExperience:* Understand the role that a school nurse encompasses in health care and education* Ability to work inside and outside the school nurse office to help studentsEducation:Current valid LPN license in state of MOCurrent CPR certificationPediatric experience PreferredStrong communication skillsAbility to work independently in school and part of team in school environmentKnowledge of HIPPA/FERPAPhysical Requirements:Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicleMust be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human bodyLight work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degreeWorking Conditions and Environment:* Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment* Very limited or no exposure to physical riskDisclaimer:The information contained in this job description is for compliance with the Americans withDisabilities Act (ADA) and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.
