Position: Electronics / Controls Technician
Location: Lafayette, LA (On-site)
Overview
We are seeking a capable Electronics / Controls Technician with hands-on experience in low-voltage electronics and control systems. This role focuses on building, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated systems using PLCs, sensors, and industrial control components.
The position is practical and hands-on. In addition to controls work, the technician will assist with equipment installation, wiring, and some mechanical or building electrical tasks as needed. This is not a senior automation engineer role, but it does require real technical competency in controls and electronics.
Key Responsibilities
Build, wire, and maintain low-voltage control and automation systems
Install and troubleshoot PLC-based and microcontroller-based systems
Run, terminate, and label control wiring (24VDC, low-voltage AC, signal wiring)
Install sensors, relays, contactors, motor controllers, power supplies, and I/O devices
Diagnose electrical and logic-level faults using schematics and test equipment
Assist with control panel layout, assembly, and modifications
Perform system testing, basic programming adjustments, and commissioning support
Support mechanical installation and limited building electrical work related to equipment installs
Document wiring changes and system updates
Learn and adapt to new automation technologies as systems evolve
Required Qualifications
Proven hands-on experience with low-voltage electronics and control systems
Working knowledge of PLCs and microcontroller-based controls
Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Experience running and terminating control wiring cleanly and correctly
Comfortable troubleshooting using multimeters and basic diagnostic tools
Practical, problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with specific PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, AutomationDirect, etc.)
Basic ladder logic or structured text familiarity
Experience building or modifying control panels
Familiarity with Ethernet/IP, Modbus, or basic industrial networking
Mechanical aptitude or facility electrical experience
This is a hands-on controls and electronics role
This is not a senior PLC programmer or automation engineer position
This is ideal for someone who can build, wire, troubleshoot, and support systems in the field
